Holy crap. That's just a stupid amount of money. The total cost for everything including avgas was like $5000 for me. I'm really sorry to hear that. New Zealand is a beautiful place. It'd be a blast to fly around there.

Well, it does cover first the avgas, then the insurance, then the runway fees (public airport, yay!), and then the costs for using the planes at all, since the Aero club doesn't own them, and then maintenance...
It stacks up. I'm moving somewhere cheaper, though.

Yeah, got it in August last year. I'm actually doing a lot of my flight stuff in college so I can get special certifications and stuff earlier if I did it not through a structured program. It's fairly simple, lots of flight time, a written test, and then an oral/practical. Then you can fly to your hearts content for two years before getting checked out again. Plus you've got to have good medical stuff. I learned at an airport not very far away from where I live. I highly recommend it, if you've got the time and money. Where are you from?
#32 - krasnogvardiech (01/28/2014) [-]
I'm at the New Zealand's tourism capitol, where the local aero club charges over $350 for just one hour in the air. Needless to say, I haven't done much flying. Decent scenery though.

Your system is pretty much exactly the same as ours, except you lot have a lot less written tests than us. I haven't even applied for my Private Pilots' License, it costs (I shit you not) $18k.

Oh yeah, OK, I'm tracking now. I thought you meant it makes it less of a hassle in flight not during landings, which is what the trim is for. Airplanes are fun. Do you have your licence?
User avatar #30 - krasnogvardiech (01/28/2014) [-]
Nah. I'm studying to get into the field of mechanical engineering, and once I'm done I'll either go around in the general engineering field, or I'll dive straight into aviation. Doesn't hurt to see the pilot's perspective, makes my work a bit easier.
How about you - I'm guessing you're over in the U.S? How does it all work over there?

User avatar #27 - BlizzXonetwothree (01/28/2014) [-]
Sort of.. The trim is what is used to give you a bit of a rest when flying. The flaps create drag and lift, and are used to make landings easier. What the guy probably meant was the ailerons, which you did mention, but he phrased it like the wings were on them on the plane.
User avatar #28 - krasnogvardiech (01/28/2014) [-]
Yes, that's exactly what I said. However, the trim is located on the tail, not on the wing. Usually on the left side, to account for the plane engine's clockwise propeller-rotation.

Ayn Rand was a woman
was about 10 when the russian revolution happened so she had some bad memories about how everything was collectivized and the hardship of living in the early days of the leninist/stalinist state

been pretty big in her books against that kinda thing, how the value of personal freedom is fundamental

That's all it really is, man.

Communism is the average joes getting what they want. If you're a decent, hard-working and honest dude then we like people like you.
It's greed and corruption that ****** the whole system up. In the beginning it was just building things, getting jobs and working hard. Everybody was happy.

Real Communism thrives in peacetime. But a small element of industry should still be there. People should get just the basics and just be able to live, but they should all still have the chance to go to great heights.

I think neither of the systems quite work right, and it's in fact a mix of both which will move things forward.
User avatar #1235 to #1234 - konradkurze (04/05/2014) [-]
well there is a form of communism that does grant a bit of freedom to the market, but doesnt encourage greed or exploitation like democratic market systems do

people in the west have their heads filled up with **** thinking money is the means and the end....they forget money is just a otol and REAL things like home, family and love are the most important things
User avatar #1236 to #1235 - krasnogvardiech (04/05/2014) [-]
If you took the atypical village life, the mentality of 'need to do this, can do this, should I do this?' is the real form of Communism. You're just doing your bit and contributing, but free to do more if you feel up to it.

The west is generally accepted as capitalist. America especially so. America's rooted around that ideal of making it big and doing the best. Of course, nowadays it's turning into the Imperium of Man, but that's a point aside.

Love, home and family are secondary things. Important, but still secondary. You need to sustain yourself and also them, so the job comes first for the sake of the second.
User avatar #1238 to #1236 - konradkurze (04/05/2014) [-]
think of a proper lifestyle....
everyone in a committed relationship for life....a couple with kids, maybe a couple pets,...being able to afford a modest home big enough for them all and have a back yard for the kids to play in,...

everyone had guaranteed employment in jobs they like, they can work a mere 8-9 hours a day and earn more than enough to not only support their family on 1 income earner but also be able to save for family vacations every year, while the other parent can stay home and look after the house and the kids,
and both parents have enough time to spend with their kids to bond with them....

traffic isnt a problem because people carpool when they can or use an efficient public transport service

everyone in the neighborhoods know each other and occasionally hang out with each other at public gatherings or at least weekend barbeques to socialise....

laws are obeyed and enforced by text book cops who are firm yet fair and the people actually have a fair respect for the law that police dont have to do much,.....law enforcement, fire service and medical service are all efficient and keep people safe secure and healthy in ways they can afford

people grow their own veggie gardens for proper organic foods to stay healthy, they know practical skills to help them through a variety of areas in life, like doing minor fixes on their own homes or cars, know basic fire safety and first aid,

you look at all this and think communism, but no, this used to be the 'American Dream' sad how americans used to have a dream of the perfect communist society that would have made their country great, but corporations destroyed it
User avatar #1237 to #1236 - konradkurze (04/05/2014) [-]
plus also add some common sense democracy lacks
communists are more 'i can do this but SHOULD i?"....democrats are like "i can do this so i just will, MUH FREEDOMS"
thats why westerners are fat, lazy and are okay with drugs because they tel themselves "i can put off doing things so i will, i can eat more than i need so i will, i can abuse substances so i will"

I rather think that Singularity as a game had a lot of good things about it.
User avatar #1150 to #1149 - krasnogvardiech (03/21/2014) [-]
Oh yes. It's got most of the shooter elements to be enjoyable, then some things out of hack'n'slash games... well, it had me thinking on my toes anyway!

How's things? Just tried it out, have ya?

Nah. I played it a few years ago. I just spotted it on your profile. At the moment I'm playing the demo for Darkest of Days. Taking a little break from Bully.

User avatar #1154 to #1153 - krasnogvardiech (03/21/2014) [-]
Imagine Diablo 2, with every class making use of the same skill tree. That is to say, it's not inconceivable for, say, a Witch to eventually gain the skills of a Barbarian. Also, it's permanently multiplayer. I suggest disabling the trade chat.

I currently have a level 6 Templar with a lump of wood with a rock lodged in it. Apparently it's a 'Stone Axe'.

Sounds like a horror, I'm guessing? What is it?
User avatar #1157 to #1156 - rikter ONLINE (03/21/2014) [-]
3rd person horror style stuff in the style of Resident Evil 4 meets Silent Hill 2 while having an affair with Twin Peaks. The story is excellent. You play Francis York Morgan, just call him York, everyone else does. York works for the FBI, and is schizophrenic. He also likes to discuss movies with his split personality, and there are a number of excellent breakings of the wall of 4th
User avatar #1158 to #1157 - krasnogvardiech (03/21/2014) [-]
So Deadpool if he got a job? Sounds nice, I might check it out.

One thing that I like about Path of Exile is that you can make your own legendary gear. Haha, I'm already on great-quality stuff on just the 3rd level of the game!
