The Imperium is composed of dozens of organizations which keep it running, and even more so which fight to destroy its enemies and ensure it may exist another day.
Greatest of these are the Space Marines ('Adeptus Astartes' in High Gothic) which are genetically engineered superhuman warrior monks clad in powered armour and bearing weapons that are designed to combat any threat not able to be handled by the majority of the other organizations. They are split into (generally speaking) one-thousand-strong Chapters and roughly a thousand of those, resulting in an approximated million Astartes total in existence. They operate as elite forces, challenging and succeeding against threats no mortal man could face.

Contrasting to the Astartes are the literally uncountable billions of soldiers of the Imperial Guard. Composed of the billions recruited, killed, executed, promoted, commended (et cetera et cetera) every day by the Adeptus Munitorum, the Guard remains firmly entrenched as humanity's dominantly fielded fighting force and most often-called to war due to their inexhaustible reserves of numbers and resources. They are composed of farmers, factory workers, storekeepers and generally the average, regular human in the Imperium, trained to become soldiers and firmly devout to the Emperor and Imperium. They are armed and armoured in gear that by contrast to the most extreme of their enemies (such as Chaos Space Marines, Eldar, Orks, et cetera) seems to be rather lacking, but they make up for this with discipline, efficiency, combined arms warfare and plain old balls of steel.
Their spatial counterpart is the Imperial Navy, which controls everything from the smallest atmospheric fighter to the largest Dreadnought and provides orbital support, transportation and spatial defence to the Imperium.

Pictured is the Imperial Guard. If you say I have something of a liking for them, you would be right. If you would like to know more, message me so.

For the sole and singular purpose of defending humankind from the innumerable threats against it, the Imperium of Man stands strong as the strongest faction in the game in terms of sheer presence throughout all sectors. All the different worlds across the Imperium is so vast and so varied that it is literally impossible to pin any 'average life' for the common Imperial. More often than not, so long as any given planet submits to Holy Terra and its laws and pays the Imperial Tithes with an appropriate Planetary Governor, the ruling head doesn't really care.
The key and center and heart of the Imperium is Holy Terra, the cradle and birthplace of humankind, fortified beyond imagine with the very best that the entire Imperium can offer. The reason for such fortification is partially for dogmatic purposes, to retain the Cradle of Man, but secondly because it is the centre for the High Lords of Terra, who head the various vast organizations that constitute the Imperium and thus act in the Emperor's name so that the gargantuan Imperium can function and thus survive.
The Emperor of Man himself is currently a blasted corpse wasted away by time and mortally wounded by his traitorous, corrupted and favored son Horus at the height of the Crusade and the Horus Heresy some ten millenia ago. He has been entombed upon the Golden Throne, which originally was a gate to the Webway but has since been transformed into a stupendously complex life support machine which tethers the Emperor to life as his body is incapable of sustaining itself anymore. He also directs the Astronomican, which serves as a beacon throughout all of space by providing a reference point for all Warp-travelling craft. At the same time, he is literally protecting the galaxy and every being within it by focusing all of his psychic/godly might into regenerating the fabric of reality by mending the Warp portals that allow daemons to pour through, though he is gradually slipping.

Pictured is the Emperor of Man.

Actually, that's a stupid idea. A better one would be a long-term military alliance. Less lives and less resources lost. The way we're headed, Fallout might become a reality. And that is a terrifying thought.

well allying with usa means theyll try to ******** russia out of so much to profit usa and leave russia in ****

You didn't forget about the states' massive debt, right?
#1682 to #1681 - krasnogvardiech (08/16/2014) [-]
Russia's better off financially than the U.S is. It would be a blow to the Federation, certainly.

The only answer is space, tovarisch. Even a small asteroid is worth billions in scientific resources - as well as elements and materiel alien to our world.

I think the space race ought to be started up again.
User avatar #1684 to #1682 - konradkurze (08/16/2014) [-]
yeah there is space but then you'd have usa and the un bitch about "anything russia colonizes should be international access
same deal as that moon treaty where somehow the moon is supposedly international property

yeah usa has a massive debt even more reason theyd ******** russia out of its wealth

hell alaska was an illegal sale and usa refused to hand it back
User avatar #1685 to #1684 - krasnogvardiech (08/16/2014) [-]
The race would be combined. International access means that its resources would go to whoever needs it, with a hefty percentage going towards the nation/organization that did it.

The whole reason the US would ask for money is to pay off their debts in the first place. No reason save that - they hate the russkies too much. The States have the largest and most well-equipped army overall, no major need for military support.
User avatar #1686 to #1685 - konradkurze (08/16/2014) [-]
then that just leaves it open for greedy corporations to buy everything up over time thus ******** on other planets like they do to earth

best russia takes and holds on its own and lets normal people migrate to said planets and forbids corporate ownership
User avatar #1687 to #1686 - krasnogvardiech (08/16/2014) [-]
You've obviously never heard of the oligarchy. It's heading that way - the few, all over the world, are taking control of all its resources. Disney's doing it, BP Oil's doing it, everyone is.

It's all over the place. I actually care, though, about what they're going to do and what opportunity does it open up for the everyman.
User avatar #1688 to #1687 - konradkurze (08/16/2014) [-]
i say we need another yeltsin to march in with part of the army....kick out the government and also get rid of the oligarchs trying to own eveything
User avatar #1689 to #1688 - krasnogvardiech (08/16/2014) [-]
The oligarchs' owning it all isn't the problem. Having much under the control of many means that it's easier to organize **** .

That's part of the reason why the Red Army failed in the initial stages of World War 2's Soviet front. Poor, disorganized leadership. So much resources eventually got the work done, but it floundered about for a while.

Mobilization, tovarisch, is the issue. Putting resources in the right place. Space is the new place for funds - the Chinese are already on the plan, for ****** sake.
User avatar #1690 to #1689 - konradkurze (08/16/2014) [-]
yah but chinese are also a problem,,their leadership SUCKS....its still the few privileged and their friends / family getting rich and making the poor poorer and dispossessing the independent rich

like just a couple years back....some guy who owned a hotel near a river was forced to sell it for 10% of its value because the government wanted to flood the ricer to build a hydro power damn which meant his hotel would have been in the flood are otherwise

and oligarchs are one of the problems.....the rich shouldnt be allowed to buy more and create monopolies on resources...if we go to other planets we go without them and let normal people have a fresh start at prosperity

Hey Krasno...
Would you happen to know of an energy source, that is small, yet efficient and could power a man sized mechanical exoskeleton, kinda like this one?

I'm planning on maybe starting something like it and I'm trying to find an energy source... I know it's probably futile, but hey... Why not?
My father says I should be less on the computer, so... I need to find ways to entertain myself... friend suggested this...
I know it's way out of my field of experties and education, but I want to show those Japs that they're not the only ones who can build one... Gonna cost a lot though...

... Right...
I'm fairly sure a tiny nuclear reactor could horribly backfire... and there are things even I can't get my hands on... i was thinking something like a small tesla coil, connected to a divider where one part is then in turn connected back into the coil and another to the suit... just a spark to fire it up... probably wouldn't work, though...
Still thank you for your time...
