If the US began annexing nations around it I bet they would be screwed as firstly they are invading another NATO country, which could cause the rest of NATO to turn on the US, Russia would see a ripe opportunity to weaken the US by assisting Candada.

oh yeah there's no denying that the only one who "won" would be canada simply because they managed to avoid being annexed they didn't gain anything they just managed not to lose anything

Well Canada at that time did not exist, it was still just a colony, not even a united one, under the jurisdiction of London. In fact, many Canadians from the maritimes and upper Canada supported the idea of joining the US.

Canada is a Commonwealth country man you would be dealing with Great Britain, South Africa, Australia and India. There is no way Canada would stand alone against the US.

Since the status of Westminster of 1931, Canada is independent in all aspects of its politics, the only thing still linking it to the UK is the fact that Canada is a member of the Commonwealth, which is basically a mutual defense act, but, the US being a much more powerfull economic and military power, I seriously doubt the rest of the Commonwealth would send troops, sure they'd implement economical restrictions, but they wouldn't have the strenght to directly oppose the US.
