Both white and black are colours, contrary to popular belief.
A colour is a concept of the specific wavelengths of reflections from objects, or wavelengths of light. White light is merely a wide range of wavelengths close enough together that it appears white. Black is light of negligible wavelength, or that in a non-visible part of the spectrum.

It's sort of like a string - A string can vibrate at different frequencies, one of which is zero. But even if it has zero vibrations, it's still a string.

as a photographer artist and designer it's not classed as a colour, here's why:
a colour is classified using three things
- hue
- saturation
- lightness and darkness
A vivid green would have the Green hue with a high saturation and lightness
brown has a mid saturation, an orange ish hue and it's rather dark
White has no hue and no saturation, therefore it is not classed as a colour, it might be scientifically but it's not categorised as one generally for that reason, it literally has no way of classification of colour and there for, as it only has lightness or darkness, it is classed as a shade

I don't know what it is about the gorillaz that makes me obsess so much, but a lot of my work when I was at school used to have gorillaz either doodled or incorporated into the work
I even did a half an hour presentation in front of my English class about them I'm really bad at talking in front of people and my teacher turned out to love them too and helped me a lot during the presentation, I then got full marks on my speech skills because she was so happy that I chose a subject that she too enjoyed c:
