I may only have 100 graphics on my Wii U compared to your 300 graphics (trust me, I'm an engineer), but I don't give a fuck. If you don't think the extra effort, price, research and more effort are worth getting a good gaming PC, why the shit would you?
I'm nowhere near tech savvy, and I know I'm far from alone with that. Even if I were, PC gaming requires a lot more time and effort for something that should be an escape from work, in my opinion. I also don't want to rely on a shitty Wii U emulator that wouldn't even work nearly as well as a regular Wii U.
I don't care how you game, but when you try to convince people that your way of gaming is objectively superior, you only sound like a massive 15-year-old tool, and I will point and laugh at you.

But to give you a rough estimate, I bought my PC from a work-mate (so, second-hand) for about $300 (estimated adjustment of currency). After about 1 year, I made a serious upgrade for $600, maybe $700 (once again, hard to estimate because I can't remember the exact prices in the local currency, so it's even harder to calculate in US dollars).
#314 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
Hadn't made any calculations yet, but you do have to take into account most PC users take about half their money back from their initial investment since they sell their old components at second-hand.
Also, depends on what upgrades you're willing to make.
Not to mention you make those upgrades over a rather long period of time (it's worth investing something that will last you 3-4 years i.e.: will allow you to play most titles and high or very high specs for the following years) and are balanced with the incredible sales we get on games (like Steam sales).
Most console games remain rather expensive, while we can get -what- 3-4-5 titles for $5?
inb4 piracy, of course.
#317 - firebunny (12/12/2013) [-]
Wow so you want to let people play on your hand me downs so that you can spend more money just to play a game...we console people are the smart ones. One price and we can play, did you know that the design and create games specially just for console...GTA 5. Sucks right.
#324 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
"Wow so you want to let people play on your hand me downs so that you can spend more money just to play a game...we console people are the smart ones."
I seriously didn't get that one... what's up with the "hand me downs"?!
Claiming that console people are smarter?! Excuse me, but a logical & sane person realizes that there are different levels of buying power on the PC hardware market. There will ALWAYS be people that can't afford certain stuff, so they buy it second-hand
#320 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
"did you know that the design and create games specially just for console"
Actually I am fully aware of that. And I hate it with the entirety of my heart.
Why? Because console-oriented games have made games, over the years, DUMBER.
And you're talking as if you develop console games... on consoles. It's still a PC that creates that game, you know.
Not to mention we (the PC users) get the short end of the stick, usually, since developers don't give 2 shits about proper PC porting (starting from controls and ending with optimization).
For instance, I'm still slightly disgusted on how the menus in both The Witcher 2 and Skyrim are layed out, because it reeks a mile away of console/gamerpad logic.
#328 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
Well maybe if devs gave us back the opportunity to see how their game is like THEN deciding either to buy it or not (how it was like some 5-10 years ago by using DEMOS), then people wouldn't resort to illegally download so much.
Not to mention that every effort to counter piracy has only led to MORE piracy (see DRMs, Uplay, etc.). Bringing very invasive software into games is, for most legit PC gamers, a huge sign of disrespect (for instance, Assassin's Creed 2 couldn't even be PLAYED if you didn't have an Internet connection). Hence the tighter and invasive anti-piracy measures, the higher that game will get pirated (as a huge FUCK YOU to the devs)
Second of all, most of us will actually BUY a game after they downloaded it. You'll never see that number everywhere, but any sane dev is aware of this phenomenon (we all know the famous Notch tweet about pirating).
Third of all, once again, that "trainers' argument is pants-on-head retarded. One, because "trainers" are usually used for RPG-type of games. And if that RPG is only singe-player based (like Skyrim), umm excuse me, but who the actual fuck is hurt over the fact that I decided to pimp out my character and smash every mob into the ground using cheats? Who's butthurt? The AI?!?
You can't use "trainers" to make a very powerful character and then take that character in an online lobby. 99% of those who try to cheat in an online game (think Counter-Strike cheaters) are caught and perma-banned.
#349 - firebunny (12/12/2013) [-]
You clearly don't surf the net a lot, there is hundred demos online. The fact that you use cheats tells me that whenever anything goes though you resort to ease of use, I mean really the point cheating in Skyrim is ordering a diet coke while having a large pizza...pointless.
#350 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
"The fact that you use cheats tells me that whenever anything goes though you resort to ease of use"
And once again - what's it to you?!?
Who, in the name of fuck, is being affected if someone wants to start a game like Skyrim with Level 100 and 10k hit poins?!
The only SEMI-REASONABLE thing you could say its "dodgy" is to make use of cheats to get achievements much easier. But even then, those who give worth more than a thought about achievements has a slight problem, IMO.
Heck, when I played GTA 3/Vice City, I played it solely to spawn lots of weapons & cause mayhem in town, I treated it as the sandbox game that it is. Didn't care at all about the plot or story.
Also, imagine a 30-year old parent who simply does not have the time and/or patience to try and kill a boss for 30 minutes/1 hour/2 hours/etc. He just wants to enjoy the game without too many frustrations or too much hassle.
As I said, the only reason you should be interested in someone using cheats in a game is if they use them when playing online, since THAT is the only environment where the "advantage" part is a problem.
And even so, you could also say that a "cheat" would be (since I'm playing Skyrim atm, I'll use it as an example) to make a save before a very difficult challenge and try it over and over and over again until you succeeded (my main way of playing X-COM: Enemy Unknown, for instance). Or using a level design exploit (ahem, Giants, Mammoths, etc) to make the game easier.
Heck, when I was little I used the "there is no cow level" cheat to pass through the missions in Starcraft so I could see the storyline.
Once again, who the fuck is actually affected by that?!
#352 - firebunny (12/12/2013) [-]
You clearly have no honor in gaming...disappointing. While there is monitors in online gaming it's going to be difficult to be able to cheat online. Yet again I'm saying that you would use cheats to benefit from the game is just wrong...the developers and programmers spent hours upon hours so that the game can be challenging and fun. You simply spoil the game with cheats.
#354 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
"Yet again I'm saying that you would use cheats to benefit from the game is just wrong...the developers and programmers spent hours upon hours so that the game can be challenging and fun"
Trick question: if devs and programmers care so much about the effort they've put in the game, why would they leave console commands and rather easy access to the game's console, engine, etc?!
Furthermore, it is that said access to the game's resources that allowed legendary games to appear, thanks to easiness of editing, starting from Half-Life -> Counter-Strike to Skyrim or Mount & Blade and all the tons of mods created by the community.
P.S.: Yes, I have no honor in gaming, that's why I took on Skyrim on Master difficulty without playing it before hand, same with The Witcher 2 by playing it on Dark difficulty. Also finished TW2 about 3 times without using any cheats at all.
There are some like me who want to face any challenge that the game throws at them and some who don't want to be bothered and just want to play the game, see what it's about and finish it, because as I said, they may not have the time or patience to bust their heads with it.
Also, no one gives a rat's ass about your concept of "honor". It's all a set of standards that YOU made in YOUR head. And now YOU are here telling other people how they should play THEIR games. Seriously?!
#358 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
FACT: before I finished Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, I used the in-game console on a platform somewhere on the first level to spawn a whole bunch of Jedi/Sith NPCs, along with a lightsaber and the Jedi Powers maxed so I could fight them all while they were fighting each other.
Or to spawn several dozen Stormtroopers and Force Push them off a ridge.
Why? Because I found that FUN at the time being.
If you have a problem with what people find FUN in their games (granted as it's not a pants-on-head retarded thing, like editing all characters to look like MLP characters), then you are a severe, sad case.
#356 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
God you're fucking retarded.
If its anyone who has ruined the gaming industry is console fags like you for whom the producers (not programmers) try to make the game as dumb as possible so they can show bravado and e-peen on the Internet saying "look, I beat Hello Kitty 5 on Hard difficulty!"
Since I work in the fucking industry, I can fucking attest that most games today cater in such ways towards the (presumably brain dead) consumer in a way that was impossible to think of 7 years ago (before the current-gen consoles appeared). Why? Because most imbeciles will drop a game if they find it "too difficult" (wha-wha, those evil devs made it impossible for me to beat a Level 50 monster with my Level 1 char, wha-wha, why aren't there tutorials & hints & tips that will hold me by the hand throughout the entire game, wha-wha gimme my money back!) and will thus affect sales.
If its anyone who should be pointed out as "filthy casuals" is the average console-user, since games have been dumbed down specifically to their level and the limitations of the consoles and their controller input!
And here you are telling me that I and people like ME have ruined game industry because I used an editor to put a quest item back because I accidentally dropped it/sold it and progress further. Good job, retard.
#361 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
But hey, you can carry on humping and jacking off to whatever Activision, EA or LucasArts (RIP) shit out every year and then polish it with bought reviews as GOY while the rest of us, the sane ones, wish that dev teams like Croteam (Serious Sam, who at the time gave a HUGE middle finger to the trend that FPS games started to fall into) or CD Projekt Red (The Witcher) still exist and will put passion and effort in their games.
#360 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
'We're going to take the fun out of making games. These people don't take this shit seriously. We're going to make sure that they're serious about making games.'
Though I bet my monthly salary worth that YOU have no idea who the fuck Bobby Kotick even is.
#359 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
"that really think that console ruin the industry"
Fact: THEY HAD ruined the industry because they TURNED IT INTO A BUSINESS in the first place!
Not saying that PC games weren't a business in the first place, but back then the satisfaction of the player/customer was top priority, not filling their wallets by re-releasing the SAME GAME under the title "generic modern military shooter 20" that requires absolutely no brain activity to play.
For YOUR OWN FUCKING INFORMATION, programmers listen to the producers/CEOs, and the producers listen to the fucking MARKETING DEPARTMENT.
PROGRAMMERS and GAME DESIGNERS seldom are allowed for their imagination to run free and implement what they had in mind (recent case: FarCry 3 Blood Dragon, where they specifically were let loose to bring any wacky idea, because that was the whole theme of the game), because the Producers will come and say "sorry, but that won't sell, tone it down so casuals can enjoy it".
So from my point of view, I would like to thank you and the other console retards for making modern games retarded as fuck a very big FUCK YOU, you couch potato sacks of shit!
#370 - firebunny (12/12/2013) [-]
So you say iconic 8-bit CONSOLE games that in fact inspired people to create games ruined gaming...that's were it all began from a console and you can put your dick inside your fan and let it blow you since that's the only thing that will. Hope you enjoy it. As for the couch potato, I think that I'm well aware of health issues and i exercise for your incompatible ass.
#371 - tkfourtwoone (12/12/2013) [-]
Well, too bad the the most legendary games in video games history, along with their rise in complexity, were on PC games.
So when you guys were having fun in Crash Bandicoot or whatever, we were busy building empires and cities in titles such as Caesar 3 or SimCity 3k. And I'm not even going to mention the grand-daddy of all tycoons, Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
Oh, btw, which do you think was the platform that invented and made popular the most popular of the current game genres, more precisely shooters?
I didn't hear that Wolfenstein, Doom or Quake were made for consoles.
inb4 console shooters are the biggest plague of gaming, period.

That would be true in previous generations but considering how wide spread and common it is to have a degree, its making it almost like the new high school diploma. most people have it so its worth is kinda diminished(bachelors and some masters wise....doctorate is still fairly valued for the most part). Not to mention that so many employers have automated resume scanning programs that "rate" your worth just by scanning for key words, making your name just that much harder to get in front of a employers face.
