Nope, they'll be blissfully ignorant. And it's not like the every copy is gonna be censored, just the ones from whatever publisher chooses to go that route. In most cases, I'd agree with you outright but this is a little different. The people who are "attacking" him and his work end up proving the exact point he was trying to make without even realizing it. By removing part of the story, it actually adds another level to it. It sounds like exactly the sort of Twain would write himself. Twain loved irony and controversy. I could easily see him intending for something like this to happen, at the very least I think he'd have an appreciation for the situation. Of course Twain wouldn't approve of actual censorship, but I bet he'd be pleased people were responding like this.

See, when I'm quoting someone or reading something like Huck Finn, I'll still say "nigger." I don't use it in everyday speech, but I'm an American and I don't get why there are some among us who are deathly afraid of the word "nigger." I still find it hard to believe that someone edited "nigger" out of Huck Finn and republished it.
#47 - kingpongthedon (12/23/2015) [-]
It's meant to be offensive, that's the point of the word. This is precisely the reason Twain chose to use the word "nigger" as opposed to any other word you could use. You aren't supposed to be comfortable with it even if you are quoting somebody else. The fact that people are trying to purge the book of that word a century and a half later is testament to this.

If we treat it like any other word then it loses it's power. I know a lot of people say we should treat it like any other word for precisely that reason, but that's asinine. No other word has the history nigger does, no other word has such strong connotations of hatred and malice. Racism is still very much an issue in this day and age and we need our language to reflect that. Watering down the word does nothing but trivialize the issue.

But for a more direct answer, people are uncomfortable using it because they're uncomfortable talking about racism to begin with.

He is a fucking war criminal. He lied about practically everything, including under oath. His entire cannabis rhetoric was a lie. He is allergic to smoke, he did indeed not inhale, but he ate it in the form of brownies. He lied about his ethnicity depending with whom he talked. Suddenly he had Irish roots, then Native American, then German and so forth and so on. Not a war crime or baiting of any kind, but certainly not a person who is decent would lie to this extent.
He didn't even have a policy for Yugoslavia when it was most needed in 1995, because his wife told him not to because it would distract the American public from her healthcare plan. He finally did it because there was no other choice. NATO should have been there a lot earlier to prevent the massacres of Bosnia and Kosovo, but he did not bother to learn. He should have brought us into Afghanistan way before, instead of giving Bush the responsibility. I think it was in 1995 the Czech Republic brought up a resolution to pre-empt the Rwandan genocide between Tutsi and Hutu. The US, led by Clinton, veto'ed that resolution and we had to injure one of the bloodiest massacre in Africa. He did nothing about Charles Taylor in Liberia either, even when they invaded Sierra Leone, Blair had to clean up the mess. He bombed the Sudan the same day Lewinsky was to testify to the Supreme court and used quite a lot of money to ruin the lives of the women he had had extra-marital relations, to keep them silent. He is by far the most Zionist president to date, hosting and overseeing the Oslo Accord which practically gave absolute power over the Palestinian territories to the Israeli Right-wing. He was accused of being 'mild' and 'weak on crime' so his natural response was to call a Texan prison and have Ricky Ray Rector executed, who was a 42-year-old mentality retarded inmate with the mental capacity of a young teenager.

He is right there with Nixon and Reagan, a war criminal, a fucking liar and a rapist - one of the last person you would trust in any position of power. Ladida, he brought the economy back and extended the welfare state. Not impressive. Hamas does the same, so do Hezbollah and the prison states of China, Cuba and Russia. Does not change anything.

On a separate note, what's the point of no nicotine? Why not just chew gum instead?

Because the government already had the contract to it, they sold it to him and, being the only manufacturer, are assfucking him harder than the people who need the drug had to have been on the price

Since they are the ONLY manufacturer of the drug, he has no choice but to go to them for it and pay what they say he has to pay per pill. The government doesn't give half a fuck about a steady supply of the stuff, they were going to literally stop all production and sale of it starting January 2016 until he bought it from them. He could stop selling it and they wouldn't care. They're well past that point of caring if people die because they don't have this stuff, because they were already planning to let them all die without it for a couple of extra vacation days or another missile in storage

Imagine for a second if he stopped selling it completely right now. What would the public backlash be? He'd be dead in a week at this rate. You know who would buy it after him? Fucking nobody, because they see exactly what happened and they'd just repeat exactly what happened to him. Bill Gates could buy it, there's still only ONE manufacturer, and they dictate the price on how much your going to sell it for because of what you're going to buy it for
#156 - kingpongthedon (12/21/2015) [-]
Public opinion is the lifeblood of a true democracy. Now that the public is aware of the issue and has taken a stance, it would be in the government's best interest to keep the drug available. The public knows about the issue now, it didn't before this guy made an ass of himself. Even if he hadn't brought this issue to light himself in this manner, somebody else would bring up the issue that this drug was going to be taken away. We subsidize, not necessarily socialize, plenty of drugs already when there is a public outcry of demand. It's become a political issue instead of an economic issue at this point, different rules apply than what did before.
