The shooter was absolutely fucked in the head. He said something along the lines of "Those people were really nice, it almost made me not go through with my mission".

This is a seriously deluded person, if not a full blown sociopath or psychopath.

The truly sad thing is that such a thing could even have the possibility of happening. It's astounding, and not in a good way, how one of the most advanced countries in the world can have this kind of thing happening.

Not everyone who calls himself Arab IS arab.

The only "true" Arabs are from the Arabian Peninsula.

Saudi Arabia,UAE,Kuwait,Oman and Qatar AND Yemen Are Arabs (Including some parts of Iraq)

The others are inter-racial breeds.

And those are the ones who really love to wreck shit in the western countries.

Yes it is the only way to ensure that everybody is paying, but do we actually need everyone to participate? I'm well aware of why more payers = lower prices, with more people there to absorb large costs. However, that trend is only true to a certain point. It's a case of diminishing returns, with the cost to coverage ratio approaching a limiting value as more people sign up. If you look at other countries that are thought of as having high quality healthcare systems like just off the top of my head, I'm not an expert Norway, Sweden or Belgium, these countries have less than 3.5 % of our population at the most. They clearly don't need 320 million people in order to make it work. Also, Obamacare had 8 million enrolled in the Marketplaces during 2014 open enrollment from Oct 2013 to April 2014, years before any kind of deadline. We clearly don't need to mandate that people sign up in order to get the needed numbers.

Basically, the point I want to make is that the mandate is in no way necessary, and it doesn't allow for any kind of competition because it's a government sponsored monopoly again, it's an individual monetary transaction, not a tax funded system . If it's going to run off of direct, personal payments, then it should have to compete in an open market just like all the others. If it truly is that much better than anything else you can get right now, then it shouldn't need a mandate and the enrollment would show that. If it's not, then it's better that we aren't forced to buy it. That's the most basic principle of a free market.

Viking raids weren't as prominent as we make them out to be, the Vikings were mostly traders. Crusades was more a war for territory justified by religious goals than a holy war, and though bad shouldn't be seen as an example of christian horribleness - rather individual shortsightedness and greed amongst the popes who sent the poor people out on the hopeless conquests.
#222 - kingpongthedon (06/07/2015) [-]
Viking raids was more of a generic term for whichever horde happened to be invading that day. Feel free to replace it with Goths, Francs, Huns, or any one of the literally thousands of other warring tribes unified by Christianity.

And as far as Crusades goes, they wouldn't have happened without Christianity. They were almost entirely fought by volunteer fanatics. They were fighting for land, true, but what made it special is that it's the Holy Land. Desert cities in the Middle East offer little strategic value to French and Italian kings. The only people who would gain from that land becoming a Christian territory again were the Byzantines, who at that point had all but removed themselves from the rest of Europe. It's no different than the Taliban, ISIS, or al-Qaeda today. Of course they're fighting for territory, that's how you win wars but their motivation isn't worldly gains, it's fanaticism.

The Obamacare exchanges are functionally different from the tax-based funding used for police and firemen. It's a direct monetary transaction done on the individual level, with variable prices that to my knowledge can be changed without the need to go through a congressional vote. Plus, there's the principle of the matter. I don't like the idea that the government can order me to pay for an individual service that they put forth. Obamacare is a personal financial transaction, not funded by collective taxes, but by individual payment. My bottom line is that the law doesn't allow me to say "no", and that angers me because it establishes that our government can do that to an individual person. It may seem like I'm projecting this concept really far into the future, which I am, but that's how it happens. How do I know that eighty years from now I won't have to get the government's approval to change where I live, or to receive a larger salary?

I just want the ability to say "no", and opt out. Honesty, I probably wouldn't opt out, but I want to have that choice.
#82 - kingpongthedon (06/07/2015) [-]
It's the only viable way to ensure everybody is paying without making it entirely socialized, though I personally support that route. If there was even a slight possibility somebody would never need medical care, opting out would be reasonable but that's not the case. Those who have a legitimate reason not to spend money on insurance, i.e. are low-income, receive assistance to be able to afford it. That said, you do have the option not to buy insurance but there is a fine if you don't. If you can provide a valid reason to opt out, I'm all for it. I haven't heard one yet though.

But as far as regulating what you can and cannot do, that's the entire premise of government. Normally, they'd just take your money and spend it on a one-size-fits-most solution. If your particular circumstances warrant something different, too fucking bad. With this new model, they've given their citizens a greater level of control than would normally be allowed. If anything, this new model is less restrictive than before.

The major points of Obama care were to:
1) Make certain insurance plans illegal
2) Force everyone who makes a certain amount of money to have insurance whether they use it or not
3) Limit the number of insurers that can serve a market
4) Limit the money doctors can receive for their services

That's how Obamacare should be understood. Anything else is probably just a minor side issue.
