Twas actually scripted and the gun was likely disabled

That's an absolutely wrong assumption. For example, when you're performing a maintenance on a weapon, it's obvious that you have to look inside of the barrel and use a ramrod at some point. And in order to do that in a safe manner, you simply unload the weapon and check if there's a round in the chamber.
Don't get me wrong, what May did was a terrible and potentially dangerous/lethal practice, however i still stand by my words.
I've never had my hands on a real gun, and I am not from US, I just like guns, all aspects of them.

No. When they barrel is still attached to the gun, when it has a clip in it, you never look inside. You never know if there’s a bullet in the chamber already, even if the clip is full. When you do maintenance, you take the ENTIRE thing apart, then reassemble the entire thing. And you NEVER look in the barrel while it’s connected to the rest of the gun.
I've cleaned el padre's guns for years.

You're thinking way outside the box here, friend. I've only cleaned hand guns. Not sure what sort of place America to be, but not everyone carries around 'older riffle types', and sub-machine guns. The point is, what he did was wrong. Anyone at any NRA can tell you that, even if their faces when he DID do it doesn't.

And where exactly did I say that what he did was right? I too greatly condemn such practice. The only thing I was talking about was the 'NEVER' part of your statement, which is not exactly right. And yes I am speaking about the whole idea of gun maintenance.
Anyways, cheers gun-nut-bro.

Sorry bro, but as a citizen owning firearms ( legally of course ) in Canada, I can confirm ichies comment.
In the required course for gun handling as well as maintenance you do indeed look into the barrel. Whether it be a rifle or a handgun. Most handguns you can check by removing the mag and pulling the slide back, but rifles you have to unload then eject any cartridges in the barrel ( usually by pulling the slide / bolt or w/e a couple times. Then you have to verify the barrel is empty, either with a ramrod or with good old human eyes.
And honestly if you handle your firearms safely and properly, you should never be worried about handling them.

Oh, no, this wasn't an argument. More like bad communication. It's one thing to look at it while it's dismantled, but when it's not... Well, for the same reason you don't touch the 'blade' of a practice sword, you don't look into the barrel of a gun. It breeds a bad habit, that you don't want to get into.
When you want to verify the barrel is empty without a ramrod, you shoot that sucker at the ground. Kidding, kidding. But it's still safer than looking into a barrel of a potentially loaded weapon.
It wasn't an argument, honestly! Just him splitting hairs.
