I've said it before and I'll say it again: yes, of course you could "just" turn your computer off, but if the bullies can "make" you do something like that, they've won. Basically, if they get an emotional reaction, or a physical one (such as you stop visiting that place, or stop using your computer directly), sure the bullying stops, but that doesn't mean it's insignificant or less real.
Imagine if, as an example, you lovedcoming to FJ every day, and there were one or two people who pretty much always "followed" you on FJ; whenever you commented, they'd reply with something irrelevant just to fuck with you, and always be belittling you and poking fun, in a rude way. Now imagine this going on weekly, if not daily, from people who do it for no other reason than to make you feel worse. Not to be confused with trolls, who will pretty much target anyone for the lulz, cyber bullying targets specific individuals and doesn't act the way a troll does, but is instead more direct (as seen in the content picture).
And if that example and explanation is too vague and weak, like you're saying "that would never work on me, get the fuck out of here with that", imagine if your kid brother went to you and said that people online kept picking on him and his feelings were hurt. Now, say he's 13 years old. He doesn't know how to deal with people like that. He doesn't know how to just ignore them. He's being bullied. Sometimes you can leave the site and ignore them, but other times it's on sites like FB, where you know too many people to just up and leave it. Sometimes the site makes it impossible to block specific people because of the nature of the site, and you're stuck with it.
Cyberbullying is real. Don't make fun of the victims of it and tell them that it's somehow their fault for not dealing with it right: sometimes it's impossible to. The bullies are the ones who have to be confronted if possible, not the victim who has to be told to deal.

"They've won" If you're worried about whether they might "win", then you're doing the wrong thing and I have no sympathy for you. The thing I learned is that they don't "win" when you stop fighting, you do. They leave you alone and lose their source of entertainment, and you lose the source of your constant harassment. If you think that means they win, then you're doing exactly what they want you to do. It took me a long, long few years to figure that out, but when I did my life improved a tremendous amount. It all comes down to how stubborn the "victim" can be until they realize all they had to do IS walk away from the screen. It's liberating.

You basically described Joshlol. Dude has like 2000 friends but seems like he gets depressed too much over the constant petty hate.

I might agree, but there is no stopping bullying.
You can only learn to grow the fuck up, and not give it attention, grow to not care, it is the ONLY thing you can do, and really mean the ONLY. Tell someone not to be a bully? You're a fucking idiot, you won't stop them, stop fucking making the problem worse by even speaking to those people, just learn to not care. "It goes on for years" who the fuck cares, imagine those poor bastards, all day following you to harass you, they have it worse even.

He never said give up and let them do what they want. He said grow up and stop giving it attention. Stop letting stupid shit get to you.
this is why this SJW bullshit is such a fucking problem. Every whiney teenager is being offended when someone says the word Bitch, cunt, or something else and are causing a fucking uproar about it.

Whether you like it or not, Bullying is a part of society. and to be honest, it's a little something we need so people like the SJW's don't exist.
because plenty of kids grow up believing they're super extra special and perfect and then suddenly someone calls them fat and their entire life is destroyed. They get angry that someone said something about them that is SOO OBVIOUSLY not true. Even though it is.
When you start censoring everything in society because you're afraid of hurting their feelings you start making it harder for people to live and discover what the world really is.
The world is harsh and it's not about to conform to what you want it to be. We can't censor what we say all the damn time because it leads to more and more people like the SJW's. People who grow up believing their perfect and special and who want fucking trigger warnings on everything.
"WARNING. BEFORE WATCHING THIS TV SHOW HERE ARE SOME TRIGGER WARNINGS. PEOPLE WALKING IN THE STREET. DOGS. CATS. MEAT EATERS. BABIES. ANIMALS YOU DON'T LIKE. PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT GAY." etc.

I didn't mean it like that. I didn't mean the insults, or the fights, or the stuff that's offensive. I know everyone is eventually find someone who don't like them and get into fights and feel insulted. I'm not talking about the offensive stuff that sometimes slip out of our mouths. I'm talking about actual bullying. You know, the ones that happen because someone decides to be an asshole just because. Those can drive people to suicide. There's a difference between being realistic and accepting that bad stuff can happen in real life and being a cynical who thinks nothing can change and decide to let people do anything they want.
And I know that, unfortunately, bullying is part of society. But so is rape, violence, thivery and murder. Just because it exists doesn't means it should.

but you can block/report those people. if you know thats it's the same people all the time then it's even more trivial. Iv'e dealt with bullies when I was at school. Cyber bullying is nothing. That being said there definitely is an issue with the way some people are able to handle it. I don't think anyone is making fun of the victims
#61 - zeroqp (12/05/2014) [-]
well, often the victim is the one who gets the bad reaction. A person will complain about being mistreated on a site, and the response will often be "then stop using that site." like it's just that simple. It's a slap in the face. They're basically saying "just give up and play into the hands of the bullies", instead of giving you ACTUAL advice or comforting words.
When people don't understand how it feels to be bullied, they will sometimes talk to the victim of bullying in that kind of condescending way. "Just" do this, and the bullying will be over with no losses for you. It's worse with cyber bullying, because you get even less understanding. You get treated as if the solution is simple, and like you're too stupid or weak to "just" turn your computer off or permanently leave the place where you get harassed.
