No, I'm not trolling. Assuming that the rest of the world operates the same way your corner of the world does is an ignorant, unworldly view. Especially if it makes you honestly think that the fast-food industry, of all places, won't hire someone with piercings. There are plenty of places where no one cares.
If I had said it in a witty way with a witty picture, I wouldn't be getting reds--really not that big of a deal.

You are correct in your statement that assuming the rest of the world operates the same as it does where I am is foolish. However, any country with any sort of food regulatory agency managing things is going to have similar rules for obvious reasons. I know that in most of the 1st world a wide variety of piercings automatically disqualify a potential employee from getting a job in a restaurant. Examples include any piercing of a membrane or bodily orifice (gauges, nose rings, lip rings, etc) as these piercings have a tendency to be very easily infected. Say nothing of the obvious shitstorm that would arise if someone's decoration happens to come loose and fall in a salad or something. Fast food or high end restaurant, they're all under the same rules. You're just as unlikely to find a guy with 6 pounds of metal bolted all over his head working the counter at McDonald's as you are to find one at Vincenzo's Italian Bistro and Winery. Go into the 3rd world and that might become more likely, but it's the 3rd world for a whole lot of reasons.

Erm, I live in the U.S., in Virginia. Definitely first-world country. Nose piercing fly just fine in fast-food places here, damn near half the girls in / fresh out of high school have them.
Not to mention that the original comment very clearly referred to someone working the register. You are very specifically NOT to handle food preparation if you work at the register, because you're touching money, which is as dirty as any piercing could ever get.

You can have them but it is against health and safety rules in the UK to wear facial piercings or exposed jewellery when working with food
