And you consider the possibility of animals being quite as smart as us, with just as much conscience; would you really want the last thing he sees is you, his scull being pierced by a bullet a second later?
What he felt that moment would eat me up. I'd rather take my pet to the vet so I can make sure that it goes peacefully and calmly, just like falling asleep, and not being tense.
However I don't feel like arguing cus I find this subject really tragic and depressing. I just wanted to state another view of the matter. I hope you don't mind.

I have reviewed every way possibly to go about doing this. If I was dying, I'd want a family member to personally put me down. It's different though; dogs don't think the same as us, but sure, they do think and have feelings, I'm aware of this as I was/am a pet owner for many years...putting them down by shooting them in the back of the head is as quick as a pill, painless, and they aren't worked up as if you took them to an unfamiliar place where you'd get others to put them down.

There's always the "skip and get on with your fucking day" option

If you're going to do it yourself, the vet gives you a pill that you can give to your dog.

Well, a vet place usually does that in the most efficient/painless way available. Most people at home can't imitate the humane-ness to the same degree. Although that's noble of you, it might be more ethical to the animal if it was brought to the vet.

It's an animal...bullet to the head and it's over in a split second...never understood why people pay so much money just to kill something...

To many people a pet is more like a memeber of the family than just an animal, and I know I sure as hell couldn't shoot my dog even if they were going to die soon, I'd just feel heartless

So yeah bullet is faster but feels more cruel but you know what? It's not about you, it's about them, it's about what's best for them. I believe fast and painless is best, not slowly losing control before slipping away.
