I've never been subjected to that particular statement, but that must be beyond infuriating.

Also just saying, but you can sleep on my shoulder any time (pretend that sounded more suave than it actually is)

I understand your frustration. People say "get over it" or "we're all tired" but they just don't understand. The thing is they'll never understand unless they experience it, it's like trying to describe a colour to a blind person.

Personally I can go with four hours of sleep and feel just the same as if I'd had fourteen hours sleep, my condition just makes me feel awful. But I'm getting better, I'm no longer completely bound to my wheelchair (although I can only walk short distances and need a walking stick).

It'll never go away, but I refuse to go back in hospital because of it. You'll get through your narcolepsy too, you're a strong person.
User avatar #66 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
I always say the same exact thing. "14 or 4, it doesn't matter how many hours I sleep." The one I hated the most was "you sleep TOO much, it makes you more tired."

I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (also known as M.E. which stands for some Latin I can never pronounce). It's one of the most infuriating conditions because there's nothing people can see that's wrong with me. And when I say "I get tired" it feels like I'm making an excuse to not do anything, and people treat me as if I'm lazy.
User avatar #64 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
I know the fucking feeling. Before I got sleep tested I was convinced that I had CFS, because a young girl who already is on heavy stimulants shouldn't be that tired. My first doctor never cared, and when I'd say "I'm tired" I'd hear people go "me too". No, you jerk it isn't the same. You're tired because you stayed up to 12 instead of going to bed at 10. I'm tired even if I get 14 hours of sleep, I'm always fucking tired. I raged a lot back then.

I just tried to balance out the red thumbs (by balance I mean "accidentally" gave you a few green ones). You make a good point, it doesn't matter who you are, abuse doesn't stick to one gender or race or culture.

Unfortunately feminism is doing more harm for women than good these days. The amount of negativity around simply the word "feminism" discourages any real discussion, and having suffered at the hands of one so-called "feminist" my own view has been tainted for longer than I care to admit (I was never cruel to anyone, but simply talking about feminism got me angry). Whenever feminism enters an event or situation everyone just kind of switches off and doesn't take it seriously anymore, like when it comes to abuse.

TL;DR the world needs more logical people like you.
User avatar #45 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
Heh it's alright. I was raised by an extremely abusive father and semi abusive mother, but I'm not as irrational as you'd assume. I mean I can get defensive of people who try to justify abuse or say that men or even women, there are those kinda people can't be abused, but for the most part I'm pretty chill.

I'm the same way, because my mom is a man hater type, so I've always hated the feminist man hater, but I've gotten over it a bit.

But it's not always perfectly comparable.

User avatar #46 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]
I'm sorry about your upbringing, I didn't mean to bring up bad memories. I've had...events, happen with myself and it wasn't exactly pleasant, but I try and make people happy wherever I go, so I think I turned out ok.
User avatar #47 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
It's alright, he's been out of my life for the last 3 years almost. I've gotten over it mostly, although the emotional and mental scars and physical, although he never left scars, abuse can make children's growth slow and cause physical illness will always be there. I'm really the same way, I always try to cheer people up and be the kind one in most situations.
User avatar #48 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]
It couldn't have been easy, putting with that kind of stuff. I know it's not much, but this stranger is proud of you for turning out the way you have. You've put a smile on my face, it makes me feel good knowing there people out there who try and help others, even if it's just a smile.
User avatar #49 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]

User avatar #67 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]
I've never been subjected to that particular statement, but that must be beyond infuriating.

Also just saying, but you can sleep on my shoulder any time (pretend that sounded more suave than it actually is)
User avatar #65 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]

User avatar #63 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]
User avatar #61 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]
Yeah, I can't do that. I'm kind of disabled. So I guess my responsibilities are just "don't end up back in hospital and try to make a life out of yourself".
User avatar #62 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
I've got narcolepsy, a pretty serious sleeping issue, so I kinda know the feel, but not really. I just sleep 14+ hours a day when I can.

I've never been subjected to that particular statement, but that must be beyond infuriating.

Also just saying, but you can sleep on my shoulder any time (pretend that sounded more suave than it actually is)
User avatar #65 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]

User avatar #63 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]

I dont see what that has to do with it is my point. I could say the same thing for people who are pro choice, they are all saying it would have been ok if they were aborted.

Saying "Im pro choice", is not the same as saying "I should have been aborted" the fact that he is a rape child makes no difference just as it doesnt for people who are pro choice even in non rape cases.
User avatar #18 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
Him being a rape child tints his world view, just like someone who's been raped might have their world view changed. Or someone who was hit by a drunk driver. Everyone has things that change how they view the world, and him being born from rape is one of those.

First of all: I'm German.
Secondly:
At least judging by the grade averages, school is easier in the USA.
GPAs/Abitur Averages 2008:
Germany: 2,6 GPA
USA: 3.11 GPA
Seriously, if the students get consistently better grades in one country than in another one that outperforms it in all international tests, at least the grades are too good.
Now, I know, I know, grades do not necessarily have something to do with how difficult school is.
And just out of inerest, even though we don't use the same education system standard, what math do Americans usually learn in 10th grade?
User avatar #13 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
I'm not sure, but I was in geometry my 10th grade and that was "behind" for being advanced. I was homeschooled my 8th grade, so I didn't get to take algebra 2 then. I had to take it in 9th, and then geometry in 10th
User avatar #14 - metalmind (03/17/2014) [-]
Well, in Germany we don't separate it into things like "Algebra II" or Geometry, but I looked it up, and although Mathmatics courses cover similar things, and it seems like the USA teach it not much later than when it is taught in Germany, but it seems like here there are some things taught, that aren't taught in the USA.
But it's not always perfectly comparable.
User avatar #15 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
Well for those who are halfway decent, they teach algebra 1 in 7th, algebra 2 in 8th, geometry in 9th, then if you love math like me you can go on to precalculus, calculus ab, calculus bc, and statistics.
User avatar #24 - partnerintroll (03/17/2014) [-]
11th and 12th aren't any different from our calculus curriculums and are the only ones that I looked up because I'm just going to assume that the rest are the same. Like in a limit comparison test for convergence.

Well then there's no reason to abuse anyone. Why narrow it to women?
User avatar #308 - BeoX (03/17/2014) [-]
Because domestic abuse affects a far larger percentage of women than it does men. In principle, of course domestic abuse is disgusting, regardless of gender. But considering that one gender receives the vast majority of such abuse, it seems logical (and not at all feminzai) to raise awareness specifically for women.

The fact that I'm nervous to post this speaks volumes.
User avatar #103 - hoponthefeelstrain (03/17/2014) [-]
Probably just because it's mostly women in abusive relationships, it was probably a post giving support to abused women. And not saying men can't be abused but just think about it for a second. If you were in an abusive relationship or just recently got out of one you'd probably hate the gender of your abuser and probably would be in that " all x are the same" mentality. So seeing something that said even "x" gender can be abused you'd probably be pissed. And I'm not saying that anger would be justified, just trying to help you understand why it might have been pointed at just women.

On the side where the women are abusers most of those are when the woman finally snaps and kills her husband.
#267 - crackedpepper (03/17/2014) [-]
and its a real fucking shame that until that happens the situation isn't taken seriously.
User avatar #291 - hoponthefeelstrain (03/17/2014) [-]
you're agreeing with me but I'm getting all the red thumbs, I don't get it.
#294 - crackedpepper (03/17/2014) [-]
your comment has the vibe of "that's just how it has to be" so i guess that's why. thumbed as much as i can to offset it though
User avatar #296 - hoponthefeelstrain (03/17/2014) [-]
Well thank you and I didn't mean for it to come out that way, I just watch a lot of crime shoes like snapped and who the bleep did I marry and I know women are as capable as being abusive as men but usually they have a bad case of battered woman syndrome and she gets locked away for killing her husband even though he'd been beating her.

I also got called a feminazi and I find that pretty funny considering on the comment I was called one on I didn't lean in favor of any gender.

User avatar #76 - alecbaldwinning (03/17/2014) [-]
Black women are more likely to be abused than some other women. Why not narrow it down further then?
#90 - fukyu (03/17/2014) [-]
then you should be saying muslim women since they have sharia law and what have ya.
User avatar #21 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
No I know that, but the post was about abusing women. I agree that violence against anyone is wrong, but you're not going to get many facebook social warriors crying for an end to violence against men.
#23 - macdaddyo (03/17/2014) [-]
thats because men arent huge fucking pussies and we can defend ourselves.
User avatar #24 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
And then you have this faggot who acts like men, or young boys, have no way of being abused or raped, right?
#25 - macdaddyo (03/17/2014) [-]
im sorry, where did I say that I thought that?
User avatar #26 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
"thats because men arent huge fucking pussies and we can defend ourselves." Men can and are abused, and just because a woman gets abused or a man can't stop himself from being abused doesn't mean s/he's a "pussy".
#27 - macdaddyo (03/17/2014) [-]
>men can and are abused

how does I english?

dude you got it right the first time.
you're arguing with 12 year old's who think they're oppressed.
I've noticed this, the site went from crying and bitching about being nice guys and the friendzone
when that didn't work for them, they moved onto hating feminism.
you're intelligent enough to get the content, you don't have to explain yourself to morons.

#92 - fukyu (03/17/2014) [-]
big deal so you get down voted at least you don't get comment ban from being disagreed with anymore
User avatar #40 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]
Thanks. It pisses me off but when I make a comment that gets nearly 400 thumbs, this petty shit doesn't mean too much. I still boil with rage but thanks for the support
User avatar #44 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]

Thanks, that makes me feel good.
User avatar #67 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]
I've never been subjected to that particular statement, but that must be beyond infuriating.

Also just saying, but you can sleep on my shoulder any time (pretend that sounded more suave than it actually is)
User avatar #65 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]

User avatar #63 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]
User avatar #59 - hargleblarg (03/17/2014) [-]
Trust me, I feel like an old war veteran when it comes to the internet. Everyone is around 16-18 and I'm just here like "Yep, got responsibilities and shit"
User avatar #60 - kikisu (03/17/2014) [-]

On a totally unrelated note I dropped this weird thing full of clear plastic beads last week. I'm still finding them on my desk and on the floor. It's like my room has become a never-ending supply of clear plastic beads which nobody has any use for.

I think people make it sound more scary than it really is. I used it a bit before but got tired of it because so many things are designed for windows, its ridiculous. Plus I feel like windows is a good balance between functionality and usability.

Anyways.. I don't know where I was going with this. I should probably go to sleep. Good night.
