There is an important difference between "then" and "than"

One of the great benefits of having "internet" friends (I hate using that term, a friend is a friend no matter what) across the world. If you don't mind running the miniscule risk of being beaten, gagged, raped and fed to three mice that he calls Roger, Derrick and Paul.

But they arent friends. Thats the thing

How do you know? There are as many different standards of friendship as there are people.

Because you dont know them. More than half of what makes someone them is how they act, their confidence, their gate, their manerisms etc. You cant truely know someone you dont spend time with.

Its just easy to think you do.

Sssssso, if you think they're your friend, and they think you're their friend, you're still not friends? That's silly. As I said, there are many different views on friendship.

I have a friend who lives in Kansas, and I live in Minnesota. We tell each other our secrets, give each other helpful advice, and listen to each other complain when we deal with some bullshit.

If that isn't friendship, then I'm calling shenanigans. It's not how they act in general, but how they act towards you, that makes them a friend.

Its a relationship to their game character and login account not them.

Thats not a friendship. If anyone can take their place and you have the same feelings towards them then that person is not their friend. Thats why they say they arent real friends. Because its not the person you're friends with.

We talk using Windows Live, and sometimes Skype. If you think all Internet relationships are through games, you're wrong. And unless someone actually makes a concerted effort to emulate the person you're expecting to talk to, then the odds are pretty good that you'd notice it's not them. I'll admit, if that unlikely scenario WAS the case, it'd be pretty hard to tell otherwise... unless you're on Skype. And then, it's pretty likely that it'd come to light that the last person you spoke to on that account wasn't the actual owner of the account.

And what's wrong with being the friend of a game avatar? "A rose by any other name smells just a sweet" and all that. Unless the person doesn't actually exist (somehow), you're still friends with SOMEBODY. Whether or not you know all of the nitty gritty details of their IRL selves is a moot point. There's still the way they act online that one can become familiar with. Granted, it'd be unwise to share secrets with someone you can't actually see, but those are just the casual friends.

You're saying people can't be friends if they don't spend time in the physical presence of each other? Well I say that the Internet was made to connect people from over long distances.

Be in denial all you want, you still dont know them.

Buddy, considering you're the rudeass making light of basically the entire Internet's relationships, you should feel lucky you aren't getting thumbed down into oblivion. But since you've made it clear that you're going to stick with your skewed, old-fashioned standards of friendship, you're right. We should drop this. I'm going to go on and enjoy the friends I have. Where as if you got someone who looked identicle to your friend, you would know it wasnt them immediately by they way carry themselves, their confidence. what they talk about and when etc because you actually know that persons personality, unlike your online friends
