N. Korean citizen (03/11/2013) [-] Really? Am I the only one who thought he was joking (with the geology comment)? Maybe I should have said something that makes even less sense that's still prefixed by "geo" so that it's more obvious.. Maybe I should have said geometry. | ||

| That theory is no longer a theory. It's simply wrong. It's been called such for a long time, so people still refer to it as such, but it's not a theory anymore. Why? Because it was wrong. We do not talk about the Flat Earth Theory. Back then, it was a theory. Considered true beyond all doubt. We know better now. It's not a theory. It's simply wrong. | ||

| That is right. There is the process and the theory. I never said there wasn't. The theory describes the process. The Law describes the outcome. The law can be wrong under extreme condition. The theory, however, is much harder to prove wrong. Not impossible, but hard. If the law is wrong, we make a new one to accommodate that extreme condition. If the theory is wrong, we adjust it to be correct. That's why we don't have (known) wrong theories. They can be wrong, yes. More likely then not, a few are wrong. When we find out, we will make them not wrong anymore. #132

| "Evolution is a Theory. It is not wrong. It can't be wrong." "No, dude. Evolution is a fact." Oh, thanks for clearing that up with me. I don't know what I was thinking when I called evolution fact. It's actually a fact! Silly me. The theory has changed, yes, that's what keeps it true. Much like our Empiricism friend down there. Just because it was wrong, does not mean it stays wrong. Can they be wrong? Hell yes. Anything can be wrong. We change it to be right, an the theory stays. A theory explains how something works. A law explains what will happen. Laws are not wrong, they just have exceptions. (That is wrong in a way, nit that doesn't void them) #125

kerplunking (03/05/2013) [-] What I'm trying to say is that there is both evolution (a process) and a Theory of Evolution (a scientific theory). The same way that there is both gravity and a Theory of Gravitation. That is right. There is the process and the theory. I never said there wasn't. The theory describes the process. The Law describes the outcome. The law can be wrong under extreme condition. The theory, however, is much harder to prove wrong. Not impossible, but hard. N. Korean citizen (03/04/2013) [-] I can't speak for anyone but me but I'll share my story. 4 years ago some drunk cunt jumped the fence yelling "nasty things" at my 8 year old and his girl friends playing on a slip and slide out back. My dog bit him prior to him making it over the fence and about ripped his face off. I didn't know he was drunk, only that he was bleeding. I went out, the kids ran in and I was face to face with a very large very drunk man who just got back from a trip to Singapore and struck out finding a "girlfriend" we didn't know then but we found out he was a kiddie pervert. continued below #58

N. Korean citizen (03/04/2013) [-] So I back away slowly and get inside. He's trying to kick in my door and while I'm sitting there thinking "is this knife enough" I was told by the police that they'd be there in 3 minutes. Thank fuck they got there before he made it through the door because win or lose, that's not a good situation for anyone including my beautiful wife, or my 3 kids, or the 5 neighbor girls that the pervert was yelling "nasty things" involving anatomy while trying to get to them. That night I bought my first side arm. #59

N. Korean citizen (03/04/2013) [-] A few years later, a man came to my door and said he was with the power company. He said he needed to check lines inside. I told him no and he tried to push his way in. I pulled my 9mm and told him to get on the ground. I made him dial 911 and put it on speaker phone. I told the police what happened. they came and arrested him. He had killed a woman 3 weeks prior. Last year I had someone come to the door demanding money because he ran over glass in front of my house and it gave him a flat (can't happen) when I told him no he went to his car and got a tire iron and started back. I drew my side arm and he went from looking like he would kill me to laying in a puddle of his own piss. the police also arrested him. I'm a large man. I'm 6'4" and 200 lbs. I'm not by any means a mean person. I can defend myself with my fists. Providing the other person has just fists. Paranoid? Not really. #27

| that's why we avoid the kind of people who use those phrases as slogans Depends on who you ask, that guy in the picture probably will. I used to be pretty in line with the Libertarian party and trust me some of them do really believe any form of taxation as theft, they're usually the ones that buy those signs too. Whenever I find you taxation I'm going to through you into the Boston harbor. | ||
