#166 - I'm not here to argue with your points on the american system …  [+] (2 new replies) 02/12/2014 on Country Titel +1

Wow, so many great points to argue on here, where do I start? Ah, yes, let's start on the defense of the Canadian Health Care system. Let's see, after doing some research, after being so monotonously raged at for not providing "statistical evidence" to support my claim that Canada's healthcare is shit, (Canada's military isn't the greatest either, but that's another topic for another time.)

First off, Canada has one of the lowest physician-to-population ratios in the world, add fixed hospital budgets and the monopolization of health insurance by the government, and you get a universal access health care system that also fails to provide access to services in a timely manner. The most recent annual survey of wait times in Canada revealed that patients have to wait approximately four and a half months on average to receive treatment for medically necessary elective procedures after referral from a general practitioner (whom many Canadians also have a hard time finding). While the wait is shorter for cancer patients (about a month), we also have to remember the long wait patients face for access to diagnostic imaging technologies like MRIs (over two months on average) and CT scanners (almost a month on average) which are vital for assisting in making the diagnosis in the first place. Such delays can have large impacts on cancer patients given the possibility that the size of a cancerous tumor doubles every four months.

Shall I continue?

Would you, however defend that your system does not have any sort of waiting periods involved in receiving said treatments and evaluations? Knowing several Canadians in the medical field (so only by word of mouth here), one of the reasons that the healthcare system seems so great from the outside is that it keeps the general population very 'healthy'; What I mean to say is that general sickness and disease is kept at bay, quality of life is high. However, those with terminal illnesses and in need of organ transplants/donations, major surgeries, and particularly cancer treatments end up on a waiting list that ultimately causes them to DIE while waiting. Obviously that is not the intent of the Canadian healthcare system, but in being that way, there are ONLY the healthy people left behind, generally speaking. I am very happy that you were able to receive the treatments that you did, but I think it's a gross generalization to assume that the system at large is anything like what you experienced. From what I have read and understand from personal testimonies (including many other Canadians who have had need for the surgeries, etc that I generally referenced), you were in a minority of a lucky few, or were diagnosed in a very convenient time frame aligning with available resources.

TLDR; I think you're making a generalization which falsely overestimates the system, and good on you for kicking cancer's ass. I'm right behind you about to wrap up my chemo for testicular. Fuck cancer.

Perhaps, but the big thing about the Monarchies in Scandinavia is that they are figureheads, and the prime ministers run things.

And I am fairly certain the PM's can walk around casually too.

I would say about 4/10 are manual. The reason being is because SUV's and Crossover's and the like are really, really popular and they are all automatic. A lot of small cars are still manual around here.

That, but mainly it was Reagan's coup-de-grace by implementing the economical program we now know as "consumerism".
This basically sky-rocketed the US economy. It was basically this giant economical boom that was the last nail in the USSR coffin (which, mind you, were falling behind the Western countries in most aspects)

Okay this is what nintendo has done about hacked pokemon,
A hacked pokemon may not be used online, there is a verification now on each pokemon to tell if its hacked or not
A pokemon that is hacked and tries to lay an egg will create a bad egg which resets the game to a new game,
and if an action replay was used on the 3ds it would automatically brick.

Nintendo got their shit together on hackers.

Where did you go to school and why the fuck would they combine theory and concert class?
User avatar #27 - kentravyon (12/12/2013) [-]
I'm In Canada it wasn't exactly concert class.

You had music class which was the above. more or less a 50/50 split between musical performance and written evaluations. You had a performance test every Friday. Various rythem tests. done twice a month and you had to play a solo in front of the class as a performance evaluation. The vast majority of the class was taken up by theory / history+ their tests + a written exam

if you took music you were eligible for band. Which gave a second credit. One morning + one evening rehearsal a week. (7:30-9:00 + 4:30-6:00) Band was graded off attendance completing X number of weakly assignments (I think it was 10 over the course of the year) Concert reviews of the bands performance and two private performance evaluation with the instructor. (scary as all hell)

+ there was an additional Jazz band you could sign up for as well if you played a qualifying instrument (i.e. not flute or clarinet) It wouldn't give you marks, but the teachers would go a bit easier on you if you took + you got extra practice

In all honesty the music program was considered the hardest course in my high school. No debate. But anyone who could endure 4 years of it + band (not me) tended to be a fucking amazing. Our school was also recognized for having one of the better city bands. More or less our school and a designated fine art school would go head to head in local music festivals almost always being the ones to get the highest scores.

Oh god, I remember music class in high school.

We are going to spend 60% of the time going over pointless history no one gives a shit about. 35% of the time going on musical theory (granted this part is necessary, annoying but necessary). 4% Shall be your playing tests which I expect you to do well on and 1% of the time will be me teaching you to actually play your instrument. if you can't teach yourself at home shame on you.
