It makes it easier for you to observe it, sure. But it doesn't need it.
TL;DR version of the bellow:
A point has 0 dimensions, A Line has 1 dimension, A plane gas 2 dimensions, A Space has 3 dimensions, Time is a extra and separate Dimension onto itself that works alongside the other dimensions. The 5th Dimension is the Omniverse.
To the point. A singular point is not 1 dimensional or 2 dimensional nor is it even 3 or 4 dimensional. A singular point is both 0 (zero) dimensional and exists on infinite dimensions or the total amount of dimensions applicable.
A Dimension is defined as a Line but a Line does not define a dimension. A dimension is defined by a point of reference 0 and another point of unitary measure U, a line is traced in between the two points and is then extended beyond them in both directions in an infinite distance. That is what a Dimension entails. A singular Line with a singular point of reference 0 and a singular unit of measure U. With both 0 and U being selected arbitrarily but remain constant.
A plane is defined as 2 lines intersecting. A 2 Dimensional plane is defined as 2 Dimensional lines intersecting with the point of reference of both being the point of intersection and the unit of measure being the same.
Space is the intersection of 2 planes. This does not result in 4 dimensions as 1 dimension will be the line of intersection and will exist in both planes at the same time.
There is no Space on Space intersection as that would violate the Laws of Physics as we know them.
Adding Time as a 4th dimension to space works but with a caveat: A singular point in Time touches ALL points in space at that given time. Time itself does not intersect with any of the other dimensions, but with Space itself.
Time can be used alongside both a Space, a Plane and a Line but it is not represented as intersecting line rather as complete separate (parallel?) line as it exists outside the confines of Space.
A 5th dimension works on the idea that Spacetime can altered through choice (aka Fate vs Free Will). And thus alternatives to the current Time Line exist and each of these alternatives form a Point on this said 5th Dimension. And so the the 5th dimension represents the Totality of all possibilities across all of Time. This is somewhat on what Comic books base their Omniverse Stories. Crossing back and forth across this 5th dimension but remaining somewhat static across the 4th, Time.
the line can be one dimensional.
but it needs a two dimensional space.
you talked about the dimension the object, line, and so on have. i talked about the dimensions the space at least needs to have to possibly contain a point, line, and so on...

you need a x and y axis to construct a line. it has two dimensions. for space you need three dimensions usually referred to as x, y, z.
thats why a line always has at least TWO coordinates. A Y and X coordinate (could be called differently, but thats the usual terminus)
you are confusing the intrinsic property of an object that is defined as the minimum number of coordinates needed to specify any point within it. yes, you need only one dimension to specify a point on the line. (lets for example say "value 3 on the line" and that one coordinate is enough to get the point.
but that doesnt mean the line itself is in a onedimensional space. it still needs a twodimensional space to be imbedded in, since a line can not be constructed with one dimension. the point ON the line can be found with only one dimension/coordinate. but the construction of the line, and therefor the space it needs to exist has to have two dimensions.

eventhough you are right about a point being stated both as zero or one dimensional.
a line never can be achieved by one dimension.
a point is one dimensional, a line needs two dimensions (two axis). a plane can be either on two or three dimensions, depending on the axis needed.

So you "could" have won the lottery, or invented a Google like empire. But you couldn't have e.g be teleported into a hentai as much as you wanted you complete faggot, so it wouldn't be a possible scenario in 5 dimensions. But in 6 dimensions it could be...
On a different note: physicists routinely work in dimensions one through infinity. 10^(24) 1 dimensional hypersurfaces inside 10^(24) dimensional spaces give good descriptions of statistical mechanics (a point specifies the position and momentum of every particle in a gas). A singleparticle wavefunction is infinite dimensional. An infinite lattice of particles is super infinite dimensional ("super" being a nontechnical word here) and is a sort of lattice quantum field. The continuum limit of that is the wavefunctional of quantum field theory, and it's even more infinite dimensional.
the fourth dimension itself is time. and through the first three dimensions (each one axis, each in its own only a dot, a point) can there be a distinction of time. if you only take the fourth dimension then there is no possible way of distinction between future, present, past, and so on...
