It tastes kind of bad

repeated and excesive consumption of pot (even in food) can and will cause you to become a bit slower in the head, seen it happen many times, other than that (and if you're willing to sacrifice a bit of "intelligence") there's no downside. Also being high makes you lazy as fuck which in time will make you lazy even while you're not high.
but it's a nice and safe trip to feelgoodland if you do it ocasionally.

Long term abusive usage of THC will cause you to become more "slow" it's a fact dude, I've seen it happen in many people, my best friend told me "my brother has become an idiot" (we've been smoking for the past 10 years and his brother for the past 5 or 6 and soon after starting he began planting to have his own stash and he smokes 2 to 3 a day easy and he has indeed become slower, he's not dumb nor is he a hippie asshole he's just a bit more "simple minded" than he used to be. It's not the only case I know most of the people around me smoke and some do it excesivly and most of them after long term abuse have become less intelligent, it's something I see with my own eyes and no amount of research is going to tell me different. I know a doctor that smokes MJ at least once a day and he's a great doctor but still he's more "relaxed" about his days than most doctors.

Over 90% of the people I know smokes weed, except for my family (tho my cousins do smoke) everyone does it it's very common, you just toke a bit to relax now and then, it's cheaper than alcohol and the tripo is safe and fun, but the people that got to hung up on it and started doing it every single day becomes slower it's a fact, it's something I've seen in 90% of chronic smokers. I'm into the drug culture, I am poor as fuck now because I haven't worked in 8 months (nervous breakdown, nothing to do with drugs) but when I had money I popped LSD once a week and smoke weed two or three times a week and did extacy two times a month (two pills at least each time) I am not slower, but I feel some change, like when I get nervous (job interview or being put on the spot for something) I get twichy like I'll start moving my hands a lot making gestures that altho do make sense are completly unnecesary and that is something I used to do when I started taking LSD on my first trips I was very visual about my comunications, Same with weed chronic smokers they all become this pacifist stereotype jamaican lovers because they get too lazy to think of a way to resolve things with conflict. and I've seen it, many times.

Yes. Because they're fucking scientific studies published by doctors. Like, you know, people more intelligent an educated than you. So yes, I think they know more than you. I think they're right, given they have access to brain scans and the ability to administer tests to determine any change in intelligence. Be wrong. It's cool. Just know that voluntary ignorance is stupidity.

Marijuana also affects brain development, and when it is used heavily by young people, its effects on thinking and memory may last a long time or even be permanent. A recent study of marijuana users who began using in adolescence revealed substantially reduced connectivity among brain areas responsible for learning and memory. And a large long-term study in New Zealand showed that people who began smoking marijuana heavily in their teens lost an average of 8 points in IQ between age 13 and age 38. Importantly, the lost cognitive abilities were not fully restored in those who quit smoking marijuana as adults. Those who started smoking marijuana in adulthood did not show significant IQ declines.
Note how it says "significant" in adults there is still a change.
Substantial evidence from animal research and a growing number of studies in humans indicate that marijuana exposure during development can cause long-term or possibly permanent adverse changes in the brain. Rats exposed to THC before birth, soon after birth, or during adolescence show notable problems with specific learning and memory tasks later in life.19–21 Cognitive impairments in adult rats exposed to THC during adolescence are associated with structural and functional changes in the hippocampus.22–24 Studies in rats also show that adolescent exposure to THC is associated with an altered reward system, increasing the likelihood that an animal will self-administer other drugs (e.g., heroin) when given an opportunity. Imaging studies in human adolescents show that regular marijuana users display impaired neural connectivity in specific brain regions involved in a broad range of executive functions like memory, learning, and impulse control compared to non-users.

Going to a .gov for genuine information about an illegal substance? Genius.
Not only has modern science refuted the notion that marijuana is neurotoxic, recent scientific discoveries have indicated that cannabinoids are, in fact, neuroprotective, particularly against alcohol-induced brain damage. In a recent preclinical study -- the irony of which is obvious to anyone who reads it -- researchers at the US National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) reported that the administration of the non-psychoactive cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) reduced ethanol-induced cell death in the brain by up to 60 percent. "This study provides the first demonstration of CBD as an in vivo neuroprotectant ... in preventing binge ethanol-induced brain injury," the study's authors wrote in the May 2005 issue of the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. Alcohol poisoning is linked to hundreds of preventable deaths each year in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control, while cannabis cannot cause death by overdose.
Of course, many US neurologists have known about cannabis' neuroprotective prowess for years. NIMH scientists in 1998 first touted the ability of natural cannabinoids to stave off the brain-damaging effects of stroke and acute head trauma. Similar findings were then replicated by investigators in the Netherlands and Italy and, most recently, by a Japanese research in 2005. However, attempts to measure the potential neuroprotective effects of synthetic cannabinoid-derived medications in humans have so far been inconclusive.

"Study turns pot wisdom on its head," pronounced the Globe and Mail in October. News wires throughout North America and the world touted similar headlines -- all of which were met with a monumental silence from federal officials and law enforcement. Why all the fuss? Researchers at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon found that the administration of synthetic cannabinoids in rats stimulated the proliferation of newborn neurons (nerve cells) in the hippocampus region of the brain and significantly reduced measures of anxiety and depression-like behavior. The results shocked researchers -- who noted that almost all other so-called "drugs of abuse," including alcohol and tobacco, decrease neurogenesis in adults -- and left the "pot kills brain cells" crowd with a platter of long-overdue egg on their faces.

A review of the scientific literature indicates that rumors regarding the "stoner stupid" stereotype are unfounded. According to clinical trial data published this past spring in the American Journal of Addictions, cannabis use -- including heavy, long-term use of the drug -- has, at most, only a negligible impact on cognition and memory. Researchers at Harvard Medical School performed magnetic resonance imaging on the brains of 22 long-term cannabis users (reporting a mean of 20,100 lifetime episodes of smoking) and 26 controls (subjects with no history of cannabis use). Imaging displayed "no significant differences" between heavy cannabis smokers compared to controls, the study found.
Previous trials tell a similar tale. An October 2004 study published in the journal Psychological Medicine examining the potential long-term residual effects of cannabis on cognition in monozygotic male twins reported "an absence of marked long-term residual effects of marijuana use on cognitive abilities." A 2003 meta-analysis published in the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society also "failed to reveal a substantial, systematic effect of long-term, regular cannabis consumption on the neurocognitive functioning of users who were not acutely intoxicated," and a 2002 clinical trial published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal determined, "Marijuana does not have a long-term negative impact on global intelligence."
A 2001 study published in the Archives of General Psychiatry found that long-term cannabis smokers who abstained from the drug for one week "showed virtually no significant differences from control subjects (those who had smoked marijuana less than 50 times in their lives) on a battery of 10 neuropsychological tests." Investigators further added, "Former heavy users, who had consumed little or no cannabis in the three months before testing, showed no significant differences from control subjects on any of these tests on any of the testing days."

Any type of smoking makes you dumber since it kills brain cells due to oxygen deprivation. Not sure about THC effects and shit, nor do i really care. Although i'm sure THC has some sort of negative side effect as all drugs to, except for maybe DMT.
#49 - magmon (01/04/2015) [-]
It changes brain chemistry, but does not dampen anything. Long term use has been shown to reduce the size of the brain in certain areas, but also more than doubles connections within the brain. Oxygen deprivation, as far as I am aware, has been shown only to cause long term damage in prolonged cases.
