| yea, but that's what made the game fun! the game's all "let's not bullshit around, we know you're here to fuck shit up, take no prisoners and nuke this city to shreads. here's some neat toys, go blow that car up over there." there's a storyline but you don't need to follow it, if you find the game too easy then jack up the difficulty on a new character and upgrade your weapons sparingly. really though this game is a power fantasy. don't take it seriously. play it like a game. tl;dr, buy saints row the third, it's kinda amazing. #196

justtocomment (05/20/2013) [-] I already did buy the game, back when it first came out. And my second playthrough was on max difficulty. My third was a challenge mode (no upgrades). It was still too easy to unlock ultimate shit. I mean, get the Harrier jet, the tank, and the sonic blaster, and nothing is even difficult anymore. Cheat codes are there for the purpose of "Well I wanna just fuck everything up, what's a storyline?". So when you put out a game that really does just hand you everything, it's kinda boring. I like story mode, I like earning my weapons of mass destruction. But when you start the game and the second mission gives you Predator missiles, earning anything just feels cheapened and undeserved. In SR2 if I wanted unlimited ammo for any particular gun, I had to find the right side-mission, and complete it all the way to the end. SR3, you just hop in your nearly indestructible tank or your impossible to hit jet, and blow up enough shit until the game throws enough money at you to buy your ammo upgrades. I'm not saying it wasn't a good game, just that it was disappointing. It's like the difference between a game that hands you a rocket launcher to plow through a row of tanks, or a game that makes you plow through a row of tanks to unlock the rocket launcher. Many people prefer the former option, and enjoy SR3 because it just hands you the keys and tells you to do whatever the fuck you want. But I know I'm not alone with my stance. Plenty of people found it to be disappointing, and even insulting, like the game was being condescending toward the player. #191

justtocomment (05/20/2013) [-] I feel like where SR1 was too serious, and really just felt like a GTA knock-off, SR3 is just plain goofy. There's no gratification in earning infinite ammo if all I have to do is earn enough money to buy it. If you wanted wanton destruction on a whim, cheat codes are readily available. My problem with SR3 is that it made everything so easy, it wasn't really all too different than using cheat codes anyway. I like SR2 most. It had some hard and gritty plots, but didn't bore us down with it (see GTA4), and it gave us silliness and destruction without losing replay value. I'll still buy SR4, and I'll probably enjoy it. I enjoy SR3, despite my protests here, I just feel like they went too far down the silliness slope, and the plot of the next game doesn't give me much hope for a turnaround. Why not do a Saint's Row flashback? Like, before the Rollerz, Carnales, and Vice Kings. Give us Scarface and the Godfather, but with a Saint's Row flair. okay, that's not entirely true, you need to play the storyline to get new weapons, but i think they did a good job with the storyline. it's about as serious as you'd expect from the trailer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=csTf2Z7xlQ0 okay, maybe a little less serious then the trailer, but still pretty fucking awesome. | ||
