Snorks are devils caught in The Zone and mutated. Nothing is safe from them.

I just looked up what the fuck a snork, as i'm not a hardcore stalker player. I clicked images and was immediately struck by that helpless feeling that I got every time I entered an infected area. Those things kept me from playing for a few days, honestly, they terrify me. I know a grown man shouldn't be this way but seriously. They're like the hunters for left4dead but... NOT 4 CASULS!!!!

Just looked it up and found out. And Gaben also said this.

"Valve CEO Gabe Newell said that if the new Steam program that allows users to sell mods instead of just giving them away for free turns out to be bad for gamers, the company will ditch the idea."

I think it's time for everybody in the FJ community to fucking kill themselves for not getting the full story and for jumping on a bandwagon thanks to a shitstorm of false hype.

Dude, that news was here a couple of days ago.

The main issue in a nutshell is that something that is free is now trying to be sold for cash and the cut for the people who actually made it is absolute peanuts.

I'd say that the overall idea of OPs pic is poking at how it seems major companies lately seem to be using every possible way of scraping cash from their customers, while from a business standpoint, obviously maximizing profits is always good, but from another point things like day 1 DLC never agreed with it, it's like saying "oh you just blew a $100AUD hole in your wallet for our product, now here's a ton of stuff we made that we could have easily included in-game on release, but it'll cost you even more , impossible 'free' games with paying something being the only way to pass it, and now even mods, something that allowed players to enjoy community made content for free, are being taken advantage of. never saw the issue with pre-order stuff though, it's basically encouraging people to buy your product, and pre-release is usually better to drum up interest then post-release. Personally though I don't really care for the bonuses unless they're something that grabs my attention; A bonus skin that i'll likely never use? Meh. Something I know i'll make use of, or something physical and neat; like the DK ties with DK country 3DS? yes please.

The other issue, like phtholognyrrh hope I got that right mentioned below; It's too easy for people to steal originally free mods from websites like the nexus and post them as their own in an attempt to make a quick buck, which first occasion this happens and the original maker gets burned out for it.

you got it right homie. there are 2 ways to type my username.

1) think of the most complicated way to spell turner

2) smash a cock on the keyboard a few times

as for mods; i dont care if people charge for mods, or ask for donations. i care that valve is encouraging theft; that valve "taxes" modders 75% for their (possibly stolen) work; that valve has a bottom cap on sales, and if a mod fails to reach that bottom cap, then all proceeds go to valve and co.; and that valve may be profiting off of theft. mods have disappeared from nexus and popped up on steam for profit. some mods were stolen from nexus and the original uploader had to take theirs down due to valve's legal pressure
User avatar
#196 - silentark (04/27/2015) [-]
Ok now I know how to spell it mr. deddftdrft

And yea, the whole theft thing is a legal headache, personally I think if valve has a brain, they'll scrap it pretty quickly, this has been getting serious backlash from everywhere, especially the modders, quick blitz through nexus gave up a few mods as a proverbial 'fuck you' to the whole thing, personally I think most of the decent modders won't bother with making people pay if they getting peanuts for their work.
Did see a nice idea below by fuzzyballs ; make it so people can donate if they like the mod, but keep it free otherwise. Only issue is it doesn't resolve the glaring issue of potential theft of another author's content.

As I mentioned before though, I wouldn't mind tossing a couple of dollars at a mod if I knew the genuine author was getting a decent cut of it Don't see how the whole 75% but works beyond plain greedy, 20% roughly would be better but it's not working on two fronts, so I'm not bothering with it, I use nexus anyways.

a lot have had the donate method; the system worked great.

modders work for the love of the game and to audition for jobs; hiding great products behind paywalls is a pennies now for dollars later thing

True and if I remember one of the most expansive skyrim mods to date was made by someone hoping to get a job at bethesda. The first mount & blade game was created by a small group of designers wanting something to show when applying for obs in game companies.

I also knew a couple of people who did quite well from donations for quality morrowind/oblivion mods, If people truly enjoy something free, many are quite happy to roll a few dollars if it means possibly seeing more.

#210 - phtholognyrrh (04/27/2015) [-]
exactly.

im not a true free market capitalist, but in small scale like a modding community, its the best method
User avatar
#214 - silentark (04/27/2015) [-]
yep, though I do wonder how this whole pay for mods things works out from a legal standpoint, surely it has to be flying close to some serious copyright violations; most games that allow or encourage mods usually state that mods cannot be made for profits.

mods have already been stolen and put on steam (and valve forced the original uploader to take theirs down due to "copyright" bullshit"

Sigh...are we really having this argument about the typicals double edged vs katanas again?

There's no point, katanss and double edges are apples and oranges that both served different purposes irl. Katana's werent made for blocking like we always see in the games/movies, doubles edges were bulkier and made of better for heavily armored opponents but both were outclassed by the spear anyways.

Historically speaking, spears were more versatile and commonly used, it's just that swords were romanticized and overglorified as some ultimate weapon of the past.

One: You're the first person to use the word 'Katana' in this entire thread.

Two: Is the only point of reference that people have for swords Legend of Zelda and Japanese Animation? There was a bunch of movies a while ago called Pirates of the Caribbean, ever seen it? They had this neat little thing called a Cutlass, those were a nice piece of kit. Then there's the Chinese Dao, big front heavy fucker that was good for chopping. Watch a Jackie Chan movies, there's about a fifty-fifty chance you'll see one some time. Next there's the Rapier which was made most famous by The Three Musketeers and it's various reincarnations, recently the series currently running on the BBC. You know what all those had in common? They're all single edged weapons.

Three: Fuck yeah on your point about spears though. More useful, less cost, and you're not going to cut yourself if you put more distance between your hands during close combat. I'd also add axes to the list of under appreciated blades, though the Lord of the Rings movies did increase their popularity with the Gimli character.

That is all.

double edged blades are wider, thus using the "flat" side to block allows you to block far better.
#127 - justakewldewd (03/24/2015) [-]
I'm gonna disagree that the width of the blade makes any damn difference when it comes to blocking. Your taking two flattened shafts and banging them together, one's not magically going to move through the other one just because one is wider or thinner. You could use a damn knitting needle as long you get your metal between you and the opponent's. And at least you don't have to worry about accidentally cutting yourself on your own sword if you put a hand higher on the shaft to block a considerably heavy blow... which is also less of a worry with a single-edged blade.

Point Single-Edged

Though thinking about it, that's only true for slashing attacks. Blocking against thrusts does give the edge to a wider sword... if only because the wider sword protects a larger area from being ventilated. I mean, you don't block a thrust with a sword, do you? You either use an actual shield or you parry that shit.

Half Point Double-Edged

And of course you wouldn't use the edge of the blade to block, that'll send all that work grinding a nice edge straight into the shitter. That's like... what, right behind 'how to grip' and 'how to swing' on the list of lessons for how to not kill yourself with a sword? Although... come to think of it, is some idiot does just keep blocking with the edge, they just have to turn the blade around and they get a brand new edge to play with.

Point Double-Edged

Wait, let me tally up the scores here.

1, Single-Edged
1.5, Double-Edged

Hold up, that wasn't supposed to happen. Uhh... smokebomb!
