Church sign has a point
It does directly say to kill the gays.
It also says that the one who should carry out that punishment is a sinless being. The Old Testament Law exists to show us how far we are from meeting the standards set forth to us by God. In the current age, we are not beholden to Old Testament law, we have been set free by the sacrifice of Jesus. According to the Bible, we are not to carry out the sanctions of the Old Testament, i.e don't kill gay people.
I was raised by a Jehova Witness mother and a Catholic father with most of my extended family (excluding cousins here in the states) being one of those or Pentecostal. I not 100% well versed in the bible but I know it well enough and it's various versions and interpretations. Homosexuality is listed and interpreted as a sin. And it depends on what Abraham religion one follows and what one believws that determines what the bible teaches or preaches.
And most of all, twas joking.
I speak this as a theistic agnostic in a local realm.
Yeah I figured you were joking, but my only point is that the Bible does accept all people. You can be a "Gay Christian." There are people in my church who identify as homosexual. Yes, we don't think homosexual sex is good, but neither is premarital sex, which many of us, including myself, are guilty of. The thing so many hateful Christians get wrong is that all sin is bad in God's eyes, and only harping on the ones you don't do is incredibly hypocritical. And it gives Christians that actually follow the Bible a bad name.
Again, it depends what bible, what section of religion, what place you go worship at and who you are as an individual that determines the interpretation and perception of Abraham religions in general.
What you and your church practice and believe is different from others practice and believe. Everyone's interpretation of real Christian/ Catholic/ etc etc is opinionated due to so many sacred texts and precedents.
Yes it teaches us that we are fallen beings. It does not teach us to revel in sin. Nowhere in the bible does it say one should remain a practicing homosexual, nor is it implied. I have never met a homosexual who has a good relationship with God, in fact they go out of their way to spite Him. Yes one can be forgive for homosexuality but the thing is it is still a sin. To suggest that we must accept that "we're all fucked up" and not try to better ourselves is dishonest.
I speak this as a practicing Catholic in a very active Church.
You may have never met a homosexual with a good relationship with God, but there are two guys in my homechurch that identified as gay when they accepted Christ. One of them is having a deep spiritual battle, but the other is doing great. He is serving well, evangelizing to friends and family, doing everything a "Good Christian" does. Does he have a homosexual attraction? Yes. Does that make him sinful? Debatable. But what I've learned from my Bible readings is that acting on that impulse is the major sin. And, in that regard, I've failed just as much as he has, practicing premarital heterosexual sex. It's no better or worse than what he did. I would disagree and say that the whole point IS to say that "we're all fucked up." I'm not saying that we shouldn't try to be better, but that comes from the divine power of God, not just saying "I'm not gay anymore." I'm confident God will guide my friend onto a good path in the future.
Not all sin is equal. Yes premarital heterosexual intercourse is a sin but it is far less sinful than that of homosexual intercourse. The whole point is to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. I am glad that the two homosexuals in your Church have turned to Christ I hope they are honest in their attempts and I wish them the best of luck with their spiritual endeavors
Right. We might have scuffles over the little stuff, but at least we agree on what matters.
