The long and short of it is that because we've had privatized healthcare for so long, its becomes a hugely profitable industry for everyone involved. The doctors, the hospitals, the pharmacies, all of them. Hell, even medical degrees from colleges are some of the most expensive degrees. The best option we have for socializing and I mean socializing in the literal sense, I'm not one of those Americans who screams "SOCIALISM" at everything I oppose healthcare would be for the government to pay doctors, hospitals, etc. per patient they see instead of the patients paying themselves. Whether this is through government health insurance, or just outright paying them.

This presents 2 main problem. First, it would be the government deciding how much the doctors get paid, and they would severely cut the pay they're getting now, which will keep newer doctors from being able to pay back their exorbitant student loans, and will incentivize doctors to care only about the quantity of patients they see over the quality of their work. Secondly, our nation is already over $18,000,000,000,000 in debt. Instituting this government-funded healthcare policy would only drive us into more debt.

In all honesty, I don't believe there is a perfect system for healthcare in this kind of economy. You're either going to have governments driving themselves further into debt, or people who are unable to afford healthcare.

Alright...pretty good points...I actually appreciate an honest answer. I didn't knew the States where so bad in debt and you are right on the last part, there is no perfect health system, in Costa Rica we give (or make us give) 9% of our income to the government just for health.

This is so everyone can have free healthcare, but it does have it flaws and mayor ones.

So thanks for explaining.
