It would reduce our solar system massively, it takes 15 minutes for sunlight to reach Earth and five hours to Pluto. So, even if we only hit half of speed of light, it would be massive jump forward. Future astronauts would feel same thing as Apollo astronauts when they looked back at Earth, only on more extreme scale. They could literally witness their own star shrinking in distance and Earth vanishing into the blackness.

All we can do is wait and see the results of testing.

That...is actually incredible. To break the speed of light in any environment is a feat in itself that only a few years ago would have been deemed impossible by human action. Its certainly a start. For applicability on the large scale, there would need to be much more research done on compression of matter and stability therein, but I suppose it certainly could happen.

I agree, and I gave you both sides of the story cause even as much as I want to believe it, we have to keep cool heads and stick to the scientific theory and test it, it needs to go through many trials, who knows, it may end up being a fluke, but if it survives the crucible and makes it to production, then the solar system and our local group of stars just got a bit smaller

Warp-Drive as in faster than the speed of light?

How in god's name is that possible?
Theoretically something of that caliber would require immense compression of matter to a point that seems inconceivable.

Not only that but a FTL transport system would literally have to, by proxy, defy every law of time and space currently in place, also creating a form of time travel out of pure necessity.

Not an FTL drive... Yet... But the new engine did actually break the laws of physics by creating thrust with no propellant and laser beams shot through the drive were confirmed to be moving faster than light speed, and the math of the light beams in its chamber actually showed a sort of warp bubble inside it, so no, no FTL travel yet, but NASA has made a huge discovery which could in theory mean actual FTL drives in the future if we refine it

You are right about that, but I just play my games at my house, friends house, or relatives house, cause my peasant-top 9000 is quite big and if I don't need it I don't bring it, and it would be kinda neat if Microsoft and apple gave you a cheap mouse to use as an alternative to the mousepad with new laptops, but that will never happen in a gazillion years

But are you about to play it with a different style laptop mousepad?
User avatar
#366 - joethebeast (05/02/2015) [-]
Nope, sticking with my USB mouse, even though you do most of the ship controlling with the buttons, it's just insanely hard using a trackpad cause the keys and trackpad have a bad habit of not responding when you try to use them in unison, or here's a giggle, try Minecraft with a trackpad, some games you could get away with it, but heavy mouse dependent games, just buy a USB mouse at best but, I have a dynex one with a pretty long cable and it cost me about 15 shekels and I've had it for like two years, so personally, I'd just get a cheap USB mouse, but if others can make a trackpad work, good for them
