I remember hearing a few base theories back in high school about what could potentially happen. One was that we are in an inclosed universe and will one day come to a complete halt and rebound as we crash into whatever walls are at the end. Another one was that the universe is indeed infinite and we will just keep drifting forever as everything breaks down.

But mater cant be destroyed it can change and look referent
it cant be made or destroyed it simply changes its looks
its preposterous to think that one the usable mater now is changed into something we cant use that the universe will just up and die
it might change to such a degree that we cant live in it but it will never stop existing as far as i know

I never said anything about the matter. I essentially implied everything would break down to matter form and scatter until nothing was withing light years of each other. If the universe is truly infinite, this is the ultimate fate. Eventually all matter will massive distances apart to the point where basically nothing will "exist".

I'm not entirely sure. There are many many theories about the ultimate fate of the universe, none of which can be proven. Another theory is that the universe will keep expanding infinitely.

Well there's also a theory that the universe is cyclical, meaning that after the universe dies it will be reborn with another big bang.

how would that happen though? wouldn't everything need to come back together into something like the big crunch theory? like, would all the dark matter in the universe eventually stop its expansion and bring it back down over a mind boggling amount of years? or do you think it'll just keep expanding and cooling until it eventually all dies?

My Thoughts on that are a bit preachy so bare with me

i think the universe has a reboot system look at all the black holes they are consistently sucking in mater what if there was no mater left for it to absorb? than it would be like a balloon with to much helium or condensed gasses so the slightest trauma would start a popping motion with no magnetic polarization that stares give planets the black hole would have to move about with no matter to conduct waves the black holes would stay still right? there is still "Dark-mater" so i think dark mater is the remains of black holes that exceeded the limit to compressed mater and smacked into each other making dark mater supper condensed mater
once this happens dark mater moves like a oil stain in water so if that were to hit a black hole the dark mater would collide with less condensed mater in the process of absorption the black hole and the darkmater oil spill would make a substantial force to pop a black hole and may release the supper condensed mater making a anti vacuum and the black hole would now have mater to move in making it look like one of those cartoon balloons that popped and flew every where so that could explain why galaxies move away from each other
its like getting magnetic sand with a few magnet balls that are spinning preemptively and releasing the sand in a hose like fashion with enough presser you can make the reenactment
But hell Im just a autistic kid what i might be over thinking the damn thing

The Heat Death of the universe. It will actually happen in one Googolplex years. That's 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,0 00,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years.

Not gonna count, I asume thats 100 0's. If so, the number you type is a mere Googol.
May be wrong, but a 1 followed by 100 0's is a Googol, whereas a Googleplex is a 1 and a Googol amount of 0's. So like, literally impossible to represent in physical form.
The number (a Googol) is so vast that we find it difficult to provide examples. There are less than 1 Googol atoms of Hydrogen in the known Universe, and the Planck time (the time it takes for a Photon at the speed of Light to cross the diameter of an Electron ((this is a fucking short time)) hasn't reached a Googol yet. Like, our Universe in all its age hasn't reached that number yet is minblowing.
A GOOGOLPLEX is so vastly beyond anything we can imagine. According to Wikepedia, the heat death (also known as Freeze death) of our Universe is 3/4 of Googolplex years away. So yeah, not even that large period of time covers a googolplex.
My theory for the end of the Universe goes as so.
Space/Time fabric expands, atoms are pushed apart, Hydrogen gets used up, gravity is too weak to pull stuff together, we are left wth a vast Universe with nothing but dust at a slightly higher than 0 kelvin temperature.
This is the heat death of the Universe, and this is where my theory kicks in.
The centers of black holes feature matter so compact as to defy imagination. As space expands, so should the distance between these atoms.
Lucky for us, 0 x (any value) = still 0.
So as the rest of the Universe turns to dust, it all gets vaccumed up by Black Holes. Now comes the tricky part.
According to our good friend Mr. Stephen Hawking, Black Holes leak radiation and incredibly high energy matter. So the race is for blackholes to suck up more matter than they eject. To make it easier, larger black holes eject less mass than smaller ones. So these black holes, the last objects in the Universe, must grow larger and larger, sucking up dust and each until the inevitable happens.
All the matter/energy in one spot. Ready for a new big bang.
