To sonofsol and enkmastser, you both make very well stated points, science may be the closest one can get to fact, and is a tool provided to use only by what we can speculate, was responsible for our existence. However this post, if quoted correctly, states that children who are raised as creationists are illiterate voters/taxpayers and unable to make rational decisions or advance the journey of mankind to a greater understanding. Which in itself is a very inconsistent statement, seeing as our world today was built by creationist men/women. Not only has religion built our culture but influenced the beauty and wonders of music and art. I do agree that evolution may be an important concept, but not one that is relevant to economic, political, and technical education. All in all this entire post and all concepts of our creation/evolution are nothing but hypocrisy. #62

Which is as the man says completely inconstant with all observable data. BTW everything in science is technically a theory because we can never have all the evidence and there is always a chance that data will emerge to counteract it. Evolution will always have gaps because there is nothing as miraculous as a complete geological record, and thus will always be a theory as a technicality but that doesn't stop it from being how life on earth probably happened. All Nye calls for is that children be educated properly in science as having a literate population inevitably advances society and creationists have a bad habit of forcing bad science habits into the education system.  #56

A theory is something that all observations and studies support, yet we cant directly observe it to prove it as "fact". A theory, like evolution or the big bang, can be assumed to be correct until more information comes to shoot that theory down. Were it the hypothesis of Evolution, then we could assume that it is either right or wrong, as a hypothesis is more or less an educated guess. Everything we have observed supports Evolution as being correct, therefore it can be assumed to be so. Look at the Sun or the Stars. The "theory" of Stellar Evolution is "just a theory", yet everything we know supports it, so we must assume it to be fact. "understanding it to be theory" is more or less understanding it to be fact, and someone not knowing this shows that they have little to no knowledge of the Scientific Method. | ||
