You are very likely right.

But if we presume that we somehow acquired all the knowledge in the universe would it still be 100% impossible to create a heatly obese person? Who knows, I sure don't.

I just don't deny the possibility.

We can create a healthy obese person now... With a regime of drugs that keep them that way. Then you have to deal with the side affects of the drugs. There might be better ways, but its easier to just get up and take a walk, and maybe trade that donut for an apple every once in a while.

Highly probable.

But then again, it's not like humanity knows everything. Statistically speaking we may know just 1% of all the knowledge to everything we know of. So there just might be 99% knowledge on obesity that we don't know.

That's not how knowledge works, especially when it comes to things like this.

Every time we make a new discovery, we're not getting it perfectly right. We're just getting a little bit less wrong, eliminating answers that are definitely wrong to get a more refined correct answer. Obesity, regardless of how much of it there is that we don't understand, has been very well determined to be bad for your health.

but you can't know what you do not know. Well sure , you could guess a little portion of it like "we don't know this and that"

but for the most part you are not aware of what you don't know. Thus we may have extremely little knowledge of the subject which is actually not enough to be able to draw a conclusive statement.
User avatar #119 - ninjaroo (34 minutes ago) [-]
What we do not know is not the issue. We do know, via various causal links we have determined through rigorous study.

Also, for most decisions you will ever make it's absolutely ludicrous to act based on what you do not know. If someone goes to punch you in the face, you don't stand there and take it in the face because maybe they're going to miss intentionally or their hand will somehow defy physics and phase through your skull without doing damage, you take the social cue of someone punching you in the face and the basic understanding of how things interact with other things and decide maybe you should just move.

as I was saying , what we know may just turn out to be very insuficient to what we need to draw a conclusion in some cases which makes the overall statement untrue.

I'm not saying we should act based on that presumption though , I'm only stating we need to have it in mind and consider it a possiblity with infinitely small odds at least.

also fun fact: as defined by physics , it is possible that if someone punches you their fist will go right through you without touching any of your particles and thus avoiding collision. The chance of that howver is lower than 1/ insert number that is higher than the presumed age of the universe here
User avatar #124 - ninjaroo (25 minutes ago) [-]
That's not how physics works, actually. The particles of their fist never touch the particles of my face, it's merely the interaction between those particles that we perceive as touch. In the same way that a magnet simply can't fall through a magnetic field without interacting with it, a fist simply can't fall through a face.

There are however some substances which lack that sort of friction entirely, meaning they just fall straight through things. I forget what they are, but they only seem to exist at temperatures close to absolute zero.

I'm not saying we know everything about obesity. I'm saying obesity is not healthy, and we can prove it, and have proved it, with research and studies. Show me a healthy obese person, and I will show you someone who is still a toddler.

no no , I trust them. But I also doubt them.

Just assume that I'm always ready to hear an alternative explanation, although I might not believe it as much as the first one. But I'll still have it in mind instead of disregarding it completely.

Kind of like having heard of a conspiracy theory. They're most likely complete bullshit. But you still remember it and are looking if the pieces fit in the puzzle.

I understand, but with obesity... There is just no way. I work in the medical field, and obesity comes with so many health problems I just don't see how you can let yourself remain that way. Its a choice. I've seen people overcome obesity. The US just makes it easy to live with it instead.
