Random question. Do you meditate?
User avatar #168 to #167 - jnovuse (09/20/2014) [-]
Define meditate? Do i sit cross legged and hum mantras? No. But I do have restful quiet periods, eyes closed, where i just breathe and focus on nothing.
User avatar #169 to #168 - studbeefpile (09/20/2014) [-]
Yeah, that's totally meditation dude. You mentioned you were moving places in life, but you've also gotten rid of stress. Usually when people move places is tends to add stress, but someone that progresses without that is impressive. Most people like that meditate in some fashion, so I was wondering if you were one of those people. It's extremely helpful, huh?
User avatar #170 to #169 - jnovuse (09/20/2014) [-]
What helps me the most is I grown to a point where I don't stress over that which I can't control, and I greet the day with a positive attitude. You are correct in that moving places can add stress, but not all stress is bad, and most all stress is manageable with happiness in heart When I am at the gym, I feel great, I focus on me. Being selfish is good sometimes, as long as it doesn't hurt others :p
User avatar #171 to #170 - studbeefpile (09/20/2014) [-]
That's some next level **** , dude. Man of Peace status.

How are you doing with the gym, anyway? Hit any new numbers?
User avatar #172 to #171 - jnovuse (09/21/2014) [-]
I dont keep track, I push to failure in each set.

I'll stack more if I complete 15 reps with ease. Once I hit around 10-12 before I get all jiggly armed, haha, that is when I stop added weights. I try as much as possible to keep pushing my limits higher.
User avatar #173 to #172 - studbeefpile (09/21/2014) [-]
Pushing to failure isn't always a good idea. You can fry your nervous system, and end up really slowing your gains. I used to do that all the time, but I stopped making progress relatively quickly. Higher volume is extremely beneficial though, i.e. 2 sets of 8 is better than one set of 12. Pushing to failure on 10+ rep sets will only get you so far, but eventually you'll have to change up your routine.

I know you didn't ask my advice, but I figure I wouldn't let you do the same thing I did and get super frustrated by my lack of progress.
User avatar #174 to #173 - jnovuse (09/22/2014) [-]
I appreciate the feed back Thank you! I will keep reps lower, and work on doubling up sets
User avatar #175 to #174 - studbeefpile (09/22/2014) [-]
No problem broseph. If you ever have lifting questions, feel free to ask me. I've been around the block once or twice.
#163 to #161 - studbeefpile (09/16/2014) [-]
Amazingly I was healed just enough to still be able to perform as well as I could've hoped for. I ended up hitting a 300 squat (I've gotten more in the past, but of course the injury set me back if you look at my left leg, you can still see it's just a bit ****** up ), a 255 bench, and a 445 deadlift at 198 bw. Totaled 1000, and came in first for my age and weight class, as well as getting one of 5 Outstanding Lifter Awards (in a meet with over 40 lifters). All in all it's gone pretty well. The plan now is to cut down some to around 190, or 185, and then focus on building more muscle. Probably won't be competing again until next year.
#162 to #161 - studbeefpile (09/16/2014) [-]
Awesome man!

I've been pretty good. I suffered a nasty injury at the beginning of summer (dropped 405lbs on my leg at the end of a set of deadlifts) Luckily didn't break anything, but I could barely use it for about 2 months, which would've been fine, but I had a competition in august.

Hey man, I just wanted to drop a line and say that your post finally motivated me to go back to the gym today. Its a wonderful stepping stone for me because now I have a plan and an idea what to do once I get in. I think im going to mix in Couch to 5K with it also, so get that cardio in. Ill keep you updated on my gains. Wish me luck!
Im going to start with the next 2 days drinking the water and eating healthy, along with some yoga to help stretch out the old bones (I have severely bad shoulders and hips due to several medical complications) and then going to start this weekend and then the Couch to 5K Monday.
Pic related, >mfw cooling down at the gym with motivational music.

Yeah man, ofcourse! Check out these 2 videos, they are absolutely amazing!

Those 2 combined make for an awesome hour workout that really stretches me out and makes me even sweat a little. That yoga channel is awesome for beginners. I am even about to add www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTicuDqMuq8 for an extra 20 mins a day. I think it will really benefit me before I got into a gym to help avoid any tendon or stretching injuries.

User avatar #132 to #131 - rahtoga (04/11/2014) [-]
IQ doesn't depend on age.
User avatar #133 to #132 - jnovuse (04/14/2014) [-]
It can change over age, primarily childhood. Someone with a 165 at 3, might be a 125 as an adult.
User avatar #134 to #133 - rahtoga (04/14/2014) [-]
But if you tested it around 10, it probably won't change.
User avatar #135 to #134 - jnovuse (04/14/2014) [-]
Mine was tested around 14 or so, by good old AOL lol. No official test score :p Was yours official? Or just an internet test?
User avatar #136 to #135 - rahtoga (04/14/2014) [-]
It was official. Internet tests don't work and aren't accurate.
User avatar #137 to #136 - jnovuse (04/14/2014) [-]
Well how cool is that? An official test and score, that places you 52 points above average!
User avatar #138 to #137 - rahtoga (04/14/2014) [-]
^^ And 22 points above the point where you get the title 'gifted'.

NICE! Care to go into some detail as to what your working on? I am interested
User avatar #116 to #109 - crimsontyyde (04/10/2014) [-]
Well, it's essentially sending a big **** you to Nexon and redoing Maplestory to what it SHOULD have been, reworking story, classes, area, everything. So much so that it won't look like the same game if you've never played it before. Not much legally they could do to us with 99% custom assets in it either so haha. As long as we use a different name we're fine. But it's of course a very long project to implement so much into it it literally changes the entire base code of a game.
User avatar #122 to #116 - jnovuse (04/10/2014) [-]
Sound epic, post some progress when possible
User avatar #124 to #122 - crimsontyyde (04/10/2014) [-]
Yeah I'm definitely going to. I always felt like Maplestory had the potential to be the next WoW, before Nexon decided to quite literally leave the majority of it half-finished and nuke its player base for the chance at ridiculous profits.
User avatar #100 - studbeefpile (04/06/2014) [-]
Hey man, I wanna start off with saying what you're doing is absolutely fantastic. You've clearly helped a lot of people, and I hope you continue to do so. That being said, you could help a lot more people by changing your approach a bit. Right now you're being extremely aggressive - not necessarily in a hostile way, but aggressive nonetheless, namely all the constant "Remember, I'm your big brother!" stuff. Being that forward with people, and trying to sort of force yourself onto them can push people away. Now, I'm not saying you should be overly soft either, because then no one would notice you. What I suggest you learn to balance, is what many refer to as Tender Aggression. Simply put, that's being firm enough to convey a point, without being too pushy, but at the same time, not being too soft to the point that no one takes you seriously. Think about it this way, you often meed two kinds of people, 1 kind will shake your hand, and try to break it by squeezing as hard as they can, 2 will give you a limp hand, that conveys weakness. What I'm endorsing is a simply firm handshake, if that makes sense.

Anyway, like I said, you're doing great things, I'm just trying to help you to reach more people more efficiently. Keep up the good work, brother.
User avatar #102 to #100 - jnovuse (04/06/2014) [-]
Thank you for the support It is hard to find a balance, but I have only had one person so far think I was a douche, and I can't tell if they are trolling or not. MASTER LEVEL . Other than make content, and keep posting my name on it with a little "hit me up if you ever need to talk" I don't know what else to do. Do you have any ideas?
User avatar #103 to #102 - studbeefpile (04/06/2014) [-]
Just don't try too hard to force a name for yourself. Just keep doing what you've been doing, and the recognition and respect will follow naturally. If you keep pushing people to look at you like their big brother, it'll counter-intuitively push them away. Just let your actions speak for themselves and you'll be fine.

It is good to get quiet time/meditation time everyday, at least 20 minutes, to just let your mind and body wind down. Definitely join a martial art, but make sure your teacher is good. A good sign, is they are patient, and willing to push a little, but not too hard.

Nice There are so many good older RPG's out there... Chrono Trigger, Grandia II, Skies of Arcadia as well, and many more.

Grandia II was simply stalwart yeah, so was Chrono Trigger of course. But SoA will always hold dearly in my heart, I mean it did EVERYTHING right, but, like all of SEGAs masterpieces, got completely ignored.

It's not the codec so much as the actual program I'm using seems to screw it up. I tried using Handbrake, but when it was compressing it it went from 120 frames in the raw footage to 9-13. I think it was 120, might have been 90. I set it as 120 in my MSI, and I'm running on two titans so I would ASSUME it would record correctly.

Ever find a codec that worked for you? I need to play Skies of Arcadia again.

I fixed it, the program I used literally had a Youtube 1080p option in MP4 so I used that haha.
