That's why I usually put a "definitely" in between "was" and "expecting" whenever possible. To avoid awkwardness. Especially when talking to the opposite gender.

I have an awesome grandad, but he's going to die within a few months. His wife's an asshat, though, just like their children (other than my mom). We don't talk about my dad's family, they're that bad.

It is a classical irl troll where random luck can be turned into a glorious mindf*ck. The goal is to save someone from serious danger, like a kid running into traffic, and then saying something meaningful like "you need to take care of yourself", then, walk a short distance away and touch your ear or whisper at your wrist something like "the emperor is safe" or "the target has been protected, agent 47 out". Then scurry off before they can find you. The person or others around them will think you are some time agent or something here to protect someone of great importance. The best one ive ever seen done was a guy probably only 16 wearing hipster clothes saw a girl i was with almost fall into an open sewer. He grabbed her by the wrist and quickly looked at me to say "you've got to take better care of grandma, grandpa". He then covered his mouth and ran off into the distance before she could catch him. I had known what he was doing we started crying. She thought it was our grandchildren here to rescue us, and i was just trying not to laugh. I can't tell you how long i was able to play the "we are meant to be together" card until she saw it here on fj one day. Honestly one of the best trolls of my life

It's a thread from /b/ where a guy is wearing a suit and saves a woman from being driven over by a car. He then asks her to sign something on his smartphone and says she has a brilliant grandchild. She says she has none, and while walking away he says "But you will have."

I like the one where he chases a girl at the gym with an rc heli while eating a hotdog or something.

There's a story you can find online about a man pretending to be a time traveler after saving a woman from being hit by a bus. He asks her to sign her name onto his pda to confirm the preservation of her life and walks off before she can really process what's happened.
