who's to say the christian god is our actual god?
User avatar #259 - calawesome (11/22/2013) [-]
My thoughts on that point is this.

Every time we do something, whether it be good or bad, our future changes, even if it's only slightly. Right? What if God knows all the possibilities for these actions, but not the actions themselves?

If people truly believe then as I said, fine. Who am I to be in the way of their religion? Im talking about people like my friend, he's an atheist who says hes pastafarian because it "Defies any sense of logic and intelligence." (His words not mine)
Are you saying I should respect that kind of view?
User avatar #42 - redtooth (08/28/2013) [-]
Well I know plenty of Christians who think all gay people should be eradicated or shipped to a distant planet and left to their own devices.

Just sayin', man, world views don't depend on a religion but on how smart a person is. While the opinion of your friend sounds like the opinion of a person who's doing it out of a trend, he's partly right - what makes Pastafarianism any less of a valid religion than yours?
User avatar #45 - xldarkking (08/28/2013) [-]
He's using it to mock, that's the difference. He doesn't truly believe a word of it. When people make it their goal in life to mock others for what they believe.... just, no.
I do understand what your saying though. My answer: Nothing, nothing at all. If you want to believe whatever pastafarianism (hope i'm spelling it right) is about then go on right ahead. I respect your beliefs and you should be proud that you have found something to believe in.
As for gay-bashing Christians, well, they have no respect from me and should be ignored. What they are doing is just as, if not more, worse as the smartasses.

"...and you should be proud that you have found something to believe in. "
Believing in something is making a virtue out of not thinking for yourself and it is nothing to be proud of! Believing (in the religious sense) is abuse of the human mind. You have the ability to think, learn and explore and you choose to close your mind of and take the easy way out: shame on you!
User avatar #229 - xldarkking (08/28/2013) [-]
It's not closing your mind of to science. I love to learn more about the world (more importantly: space). I want to know the truth of whats out there. Are you saying that I can't do that simply because I believe there is a higher power?
User avatar #52 - redtooth (08/28/2013) [-]
Ah, I see what you mean. Honestly, I see both the need and the logic behind Christianity. In the end, after all the arguments, it all boils down to whether you choose to believe in God (or a God or a multitude thereof). There's no rational argument on either side. I personally choose not to believe in a God, but I do believe everyone should be able to believe in what they want without being mocked by anyone else.
I think the dude in the pic is (mostly) protesting how ridiculous it is that even the law is willing to overlook serious flaws in it's security if it means providing religious satisfaction to people, like Muslims being able to wear burkas (I think they're called?) on IDs or driver licenses even though it severely diminishes the chances to recognize the likehood between the picture and the actual person. Again, I can see the religious aspect of this, but sometimes you have to make changes even in religion if you want to progress.

(Sorry if some of this doesn't make sense, I just spent the last 2 hours throwing up, it's 6 am and I'm not a native english speaker)
User avatar #56 - xldarkking (08/28/2013) [-]
No apology is necessary, you've done nothing wrong. Hope you do get better.

That aside, I do respect your belief. (Don't know the correct term so i'll leave it like that.) And yes, I've thought of that possibility but there are other ways to log somebody. A picture is simply that, a picture. A face can be molded and twisted to closely resemble somebody else. I would suggest some kind of DNA log

I mean, if he killed he obviously had problems himself, we find out about that and solve them. If it turns out he just killed because he was insane he's put in isolation prison, where life time is often sent out. Many Norwegian pedophiles are given life sentences, as they're deemed too insane to be in public, to make an example.
But if he killed someone because of problems, stress or any other reason that's not: "He killed for sport" or "He did it because he felt like it." etc, The State goes into the root of the problem, fixes it, rehabs him and sends him out to Norway again to benefit society.
User avatar #709 - jinchuuriki (05/11/2013) [-]
It's a shame America's population and crime rate is way too high to even begin to apply this.
Also taxes are the devil to Americans, even though they pay lower than almost every other industrialized nation.
