torrenting is probably the best option for everything. I've downloaded all of my books from the internet.
If you can give me a list, I'll try and find them, otherwise try "torrentz" on google. They change their domain decently often, from "com" to "net" and so on, so just google them. They're basically the google of torrent sites.
But, again, if you have anything specific I can look up, I will try my best to do it for you. Just know that there's a small chance of a virus or malware (which you shouldn't be worried about if you have a Mac or an Antivirus anyway)

Well isn't there a library at your uni where you can borrow some books? I'm 2 years in university right now and only bought myself one book, which was sadly bad invested money, but the rest was always available at the library. Well not allways, but I never had problems so far. Of course it matters on what you are studying and what kind of prof you have.

Hit me up with that if you find one.

Also, I would advise against getting them actually until you talk to your professor. If it's like general ed (writing and things like that) I would say you don't need them. Except for math. All of my classes (that didn't have anything to do with my major/math) thus far didn't really use the text book. Even then, we didn't need the textbook. We needed the online code that came with the textbook.

But yeah, just ask your teacher. I had an economics textbook cost $200. My professor said that while it does make things easier, we didn't need it because he basically outlined the entire thing already. All we needed to do was fill in the blanks and he tells us what we need to fill in as he teaches the class. He told me that, I immediately returned my book when I got the chance.

By the way, I past his class with just his outline pretty easily.
