I never got bullied, at least not successfully, people quickly learned I didn't give a shit about them and often turned their bullshit back onto them.

Not to mention it's not exactly a grand idea to make fun of a kid whose hobbies consisted specifically of firearms and knives.

I guess I just found it really easy to not give a fuck about what everybody else thinks and believes - oddly enough that in turn makes people like and respect you more. Shows you have conviction, I guess.

I had plenty of people in my Fiance's family who would make fun of it (her family is full of old people from Oklahoma of all places) and a few years ago I got it cut really short, just because sometimes I do get tired of my long hair and purge it all to let it regrow again. Everyone missed it. One of the old guys even said he was sorry if he had something to do with me cutting my hair, but it was my choice.

nah. to be completely honest, I think there would've been nothing you could have done. you barely knew each other. maybe you could have postponed his decision to kill himself, maybe it wouldn't have helped at all.
that fella must have needed someone to really listen to them, hug them and be there for them. I doubt you could have done all of this, and I think it's kinda much to ask from a stranger.
don't sweat over it. it's not your fault. you were not ultimately that drove him to think like that and to kill themselves.
I believe we are the smiths of our own happiness. or I think hope is better describing word than happiness? I don't like to blame the fella, far from it, but he must have given up long ago and when things gradually got worse and even the smallest setback from something really small could trigger him to finally end his "miserable" life. depression is a real monster. it feeds of off misery and brings more misery around you until you no longer have almost anything to cling on to.
of course I could be wrong. maybe it's not like how I described it. but most suicided people have something in common, they have given up hope, and through hope they stopped trying and they eventually lose things dear to them, like their job, home or wife.
I honestly don't know how to get back on their feet after losing everything. I don't think I would have the mental strength to rebuild everything around me. or live my life knowing the dear things I had lost and then "moved on".

I don't really know where I was going with my blabbering, but the main thing is, there was nothing you could've done. yeah you were kinda mean, but you are not the reason why they maybe killed themselves.
