when i was a kid, lincoln and washington had their days and we took their days off as holidays. then they decided that MLK was apparently as good as the man who freed the slaves AND the father of our country and now we just get his day off.

They just decided? Lincoln was a good start, "freeing" the slaves, but they still didn't have a fair deal in this country, and MLK really got the ball rolling on that one, you ignorant hillbilly.

sorry, apparently the intended humor in my comment flew right over your head. i was trying to jokingly point out that when i was your age or probably even a bit older (just guessing, based on the maturity level of your comment) kids in school got 2 days off in february, one for lincoln and one for washington. then they condensed the two holidays into one and called it presidents' day, and now kids here don't even get presidents' day off anymore. i say go ahead and give kids MLK day off AND presidents' day off. apparently it's not like kids learn a think in school any way. amazing how you were automatically forced to descend to the level of name calling when you thought someone might possibly be disagreeing with your view point.

and MLK did not "get the ball rolling" on the civil rights issue. it had actually been rolling along for quite a while, being pushed by both black AND white people who, rightly, did not think that the treatment that blacks received in america was fair. he was just one of the more vocal black leaders of the movement who preached nonviolence as an alternative, while the majority of vocal black leaders at the time were preaching aggression as the answer.

try actually learning some history instead of spouting the p.c. b.s. that kids now days have shoved down their throats. you may actually be able to carry on a decent semi-intelegent conversation, one day in the not so distant future.
