Perhaps they did. But while they were charging en masse, the bulk of the Nazi army was in the east, while there were just a few troops left in the west. And it was the Soviet flag that was planted on the Reichstag. The greatest battle of WWII was the battle of Stalingrad.
The americans just fought the leftovers, if Rommel would have it had his way, and the Atlantikwall would have been reinforced as he wanted to, it would have been near impossible for the allies to have landed on Normandy, and we would propably have been speaking German right now. And indeed, what you say is true, one of them had to carry the gun, the other had to follow, but mother Russia had men enough anyway. Andonly a few of them collaborated with the Germans. since the Russians hadn't signed the Geneva conventions, they were treated really bad in prisons etc..

I doubt "we" would be speaking German. Obviously the Germans (including Austria and Luxembourg) would be, but even the Dutch (including Flanders) wouldn't. You don't forget your language so quickly. Besides, in the west, Germany only annexed Luxemburg, Eupen and Alsace Lorraine, where German (or dialects thereof) was spoken to begin with already. They only occupied France, Netherlands and Belgium but this wasn't even part of the plan. After the war Germany probably would have retreated its army. The Poles, Czechs, and other Slav people in the annexed territories in the east wouldn't have spoken German either. For them German would be much more difficult to learn (as opposed to the Dutch in the west). Hitler wanted to rid the world of Slavs, he wanted to exterminate them (or, I assume, only exterminate those within the thrid reich) so why bother teaching them German?
Morale of the story, we wouldn't speak German, except for the people in Alsac Lorraine, and perhaps some Slavs.

Perhaps I should mention Scandinavia as well. They only occupied Norway to prevent Swedish iron from being exported to the west, and Denmark was right there in the middle of it.
