Putting the expectation of perfection on something will disenfranchise anyone when reality hits. People learn by being put into leadership positions that they are not ready for. They are selected (or should be) because the individual will grow from the experience and develop as a leader and mentor.
The most important thing I've learned about looking at others and myself is this; Don't let other people dictate the quality of your work.
Too often in my early years I listened to poor examples of leaders complain and say things against leadership with out validation. It had a poor effect on myself and those around me. It affected how well I worked and the quality of my experience as a whole. Until I figured out how to sort through the mess and gain enough time and seniority to tell all the cry babies to cut the shit, my time in the military was pretty bad.
Even with out rank, you can still make things happen. It's about understanding your training, learning regulations, and then developing that information into a one way conversation that people can't argue against. It feels really good to tell people who act like idiots to shut up in a way that they can't respond to with anything but affirmation.
But, this is not a military issue. Its an issue of life that will happen in every job. "The grass is always greener" is an important saying to remember while you're waiting for that contract to go.
