The point of the salt is also to keep the water from overboiling from the pot.

You can add oil to the water to keep the pasta from sticking to eachother, and giving them a better consistency
User avatar #3 - sewoyl (08/20/2014) [-]
You can add a spoon of oil for that

Confirming, salt works better than oil I was wrong
User avatar #117 - cannibalvegan (08/21/2014) [-]
It also prevents the pasta from sticking together after you discard the water. I put oil or butter in after and not directly in the water if I want to store the pasta in the fridge, though, but if I eat all the pasta right away I don't add anything because it just adds more calories.

Oil just sits on top of the water, and doesn't really help much with the sticking.
User avatar #124 - penileburglar (08/21/2014) [-]
It does if you stir it properly, because it will stick to the pasta, and it will also keep the pasta from sticking together when you drain it.

The Spy Who Learned Me,the war of the simpsons, this one, then you got plots like in little orphan millie where he doesnt know her eye colour, not including the dozens of ' becoming a better father because he neglects his kids' almost every other episode. Whilst they are themes of such running throughout, far too many storylines revolve around constantly repeated stories, just like in family guy when you had that episode with Meg shouting at the family how they always shit on her, it got so old by then, its like Oh you are shouting now about it when it is a 10 year theme?
User avatar #57 - jaynsilentbob (08/19/2014) [-]
But by saying its the story you're saying it's exactly the same. It's the theme. The theme that homer is a bad husband or a bad father. Granted they've done it a lot but they've never done it the same. They've even commented on it saying something like 'when you've been on air that long, things are bound to get repeated. I maintain the fact that although they have recurring themes, no joke is the same nor is the plot. Therefore i think its unfair to say they're doing the same thing. The fact of the matter is it's been on air for 26 years and has become as big as it is and still managed to remain humble which is more than i can say about family guy, which you can tell from the writing that they know they're hot shit.

I can count on my hands how many good episodes of the Simpsons there have been since season 12. Hes right, the plots became overused. Simpsons in its prime was still better than any other animated show but that doesnt mean new stuff doesnt suck
User avatar #39 - jaynsilentbob (08/19/2014) [-]
oh come on, you really think theres been less than 10 good episodes since series 12? I can honestly say some of my favourite episodes came from series 13 and 15. I personally think the simpsons is still great. The jokes are still smart despite having reused themes and the quality of them them still surpass Family Guy which is a bunch of fart jokes and self-aware jokes of their popularity.
#35 - deckbox (08/19/2014) [-]
na the jokes and story are largely the same, hence the decline in quality. Usually those sitcoms have continuity and progression such as Frasier etc, but simpsons re hashes the same shit over and over, and leans more on social media and celeb culture these days than it used to.
User avatar #37 - jaynsilentbob (08/19/2014) [-]
You honestly think the jokes are the same? The only similarity is the theme of the episode, that being homer is a bad husband. This is the same in American Dad and Family Guy. Do you know why? Because it's their character. That's essentially the point of a cartoon series, the characters don't need to age or change. They can stick to the same format and create episodes which revolve around that. They can't do 11 years of that and suddenly change the whole dynamic of the show. If you want character development watch a drama series not a cartoon comedy.
