I actually don't completely hate their newer stuff either to be honest.
I mainly only listen to them as background noise while playing Nuclear Throne, so it's not like I can say too much about how fantastic they are or not. I like 'em, but that's about it.

I don't really do that, because I'm a judgmental cunt. Don't get me wrong, people can be nice or shitheads despite what they're up to, but certain things makes me lose respect for them anyways. Which means I wont affiliate myself with them as much as people I respect.

Okay fair enough if that works for you, though some of the best, most respectable people I know also happen to smoke (and some of the less respectable too obviously) so I wouldn't want to miss out on knowing great people because of one of their hobbies, but it's always hit and miss so it's up to you if you don't wanna take the risk of meeting a cunt.
