| Yeah. Severus Snape was an asshole who took out the majority of his frustrations on a poor neglected orphan whose parent's deaths, coincidentally, he was responsible for. Perhaps Harry could've forgiven Snape in the end or just let it "stay in the past" but naming his kid after him? Even if it's just a middle name? It make absolutely no sense, just like the rest of the epilogue. Snape may have been strict but he wasn't taking out his frustrations. He would've gladly died for Harry. You have to understand Harry is not only a reminder James, but also of Lily. Snape never hated Harry, he was just consumed with jealousy, love, and hatred of himself Or at least that's how I understand the situation. So the mature thing to do is to treat that kid like crap, alienate and humiliate him at every turn, punish him for things that he knows weren't Harry's fault and the one time that it's just him and Harry, one on one, what does he do? The guy who would "gladly die for Harry" as Caelinnis put it, attempts to "teach" Harry Occlumency by verbally abusing him and casting the spell forcing Harry to endure mental anguish at every turn and then, just when Harry might be getting the hang of it, or at least able to turn the tables, he is shown a memory that completely shatters his image of his deceased father. Yeah. Go Snape! Woo! He had to be tough on Harry during the exercise, that was the only way to teach him. Otherwise Voldemort would have torn Harry's feeble mind to shreds. 0/10. troll harder or fuck off noob. And, if that truly is your headcanon. You're a bloody fucking idiot. You're misinterpreting the meaning behind her character, so, you should probably take some kind of class to get your analytic skills checked out. No matter what you say, we all know differently. Your canon is as bad as though people who say Ginny was brainwashed into liking Harry, because Molly Weasley wanted her daughter to marry into a rich family. An hero. Okay, guy, your initial response was "he had to be tough, that was the only way to teach him". Nowhere is that mentioned in the book or movie. No one, not Snape, Dumbledore or anyone else explained how Harry needed to be taught. Only that he needed to be taught. Get your shit straight you sorry ass troll. And for the record, Voldemort DID tear Harry's feeble mind apart. Had he not wanted to goad Dumbledore into killing Harry, he probably could've done it himself or just used Harry's own magic to Apparate away. Harry was ill-equipped, because of Snape, to handle his mind being attacked. Fuck you very much. Yes, it does. "Do you think the Dark Lord will be easy on you?" That's nearly verbatim. Obviously Snape couldn't take it easy on Harry, what was he supposed to do, baby him? His mind was already under attack, always under attack, because of the link they shared. Voldemort had only recently been realizing it was there. Again, you are misinterpreting the character. Whether you know it or not, you can shut the fuck up. We've all read the books, we all know what is really going on. And actually, Voldemort didn't. He was only close. If he HAD, then the books would have ended there. And Voldemort would have won. Ugh, I'm done. You're frayed logic is bothersome, or you're doing it on purpose to troll. An hero. Plus, just think about what he did with those specific examples. Verbal abuse is, as I said before, just usual douchey professor behavior. And showing him a "mentally anguishing memory" of his father? Was he lying? Did he show him a false memory? Or did he show him a memory that gave him insight, very true insight, on just how his father was when he was young? I mean, I found out my own Dad was a bit of a bro, and a douche, but in no way shape or form was is "mentally abusive" when I found that out... ...because I'm not a frail little pansy, as I'd hope Harry "The Boy Who Lived" Potter wouldn't be... Honestly, what was the point of even showing him that? "I know I have treated you horribly, as well as anyone else that isn't Slytherin, since you got here but Ima just subtly show you this picture of your father bullying me when he was young so you might be able to forgive me or at least understand me." Whether or not Harry's dad was a bully when he was younger has nothing to do with Harry himself. Snape is a bully now and he is bullying someone that can't just defend himself without being punished by any and everyone for it. (at least before Snape kills Dumbles) What could Harry really do? With how he grew up and how he reacts to damn near anything negative (or positive) in his life how could anyone expect him to be mentally capable of finding out his father was a bully. In all honesty, he should'nt have cared. If Snape wasn't capable of being an adult and not taking what James did to him out on Harry then they should've had the most minimal contact as they could. Dumbledore knowingly put Harry in a house that would lead to him living a harsh, loveless, life. Harry clings to damn near everything and everyone that makes his life in any way better. Weasleys, Sirius, Firebolt, Hedwig, etc. He then has to watch as pretty much all of these things are destroyed or killed (except the Weasleys...and don't even get me started on them). He sees Sirius die in front of his eyes and he doesn't even get closure on that by seeing Bellatrix die nor is he the one to kill her. He watches Dumbledore die, killed by the very man that is supposed to "protect Harry" (yes I know about the plan but Harry didn't at the time and someone like him never could've come to terms with that) and he is able to forgive Snape? Able to just get over that? Ok, we now go back to what exactly did Snape do that was so needlessly dickish? You're going on about how pointless it was for him to show Harry the memory when, for one thing, it wasn't pointless at all. Harry: "Why do you always act like there's a stick up your ass" Snape: "You know that kid, Malfoy, who's just a complete ass to you?" Harry: "Yeah?" Snape: "Imagine him, only he later married your mother and had you." I don't know about you...but fairly understandable. Still dickish...but understandable, and not even a little bit "mentally abusing". As for the deeds of the Dark Lord, not to try and challenge your knowledge of what happened, but I could've swore it was very VERY well established that Snape (and even Malfoy) was fucking sick of that shit by the 3rd/4th movie. By then, Snape agreed to remain in his position as a type of double agent (and Malfoy (and his parents) were more those henchmen that didn't really agree, and passively fought it, but never in their right mind considered full on rebelling). It was even agreed upon THROUGH DUMBLEDORE HIMSELF that he was going to have to have to kill him (to save Malfoy...because he was given the task of protecting him as well). So, after watching the girl of his dreams go on to have a kid with the douchebag who gave him shit throughout adolescence, he's given the task of protecting not only the said kid from the relationship, but the asshole who was the equivalent to his own bully, and he does so despite not being able to reveal just how helpful he's being. But he was a dick that one time so YEAH FUCK HIM FUCK HIM IN THE ASS YEAH! #70
