How is your explanation relevant? The fact that you have a "logical" reason for disliking the game doesn't change the fact that you did not do a good job of expressing it. I downvoted you too, even though I *agree* with your opinion--I think all the Halo games since the first couple are just milking the series. But you were still an ass in how you expressed your dislike of it.

*Sigh* If you really still don't get it, I'm not wasting any more time with you--figured I'd give it one last shot.

Do you not understand what I'm saying? I'm saying that just because I expressed it poorly doesn't mean that 40+ people should downvote the comment and leave without doing anything else. And that because they didn't do anything else, it shows they really don't care enough about whatever is being discussed. As I've previously stated, I like Dark Souls. If some stranger came up to me and said " That game is trash" or something similar to what I said in my very first comment, I wouldn't say "fuck off" because that's how they chose to express it. I would ask them why they think that. What I've been trying to emphasize is that if someone actually fucking cares they shouldn't give two fucks about how it's expressed.

I do understand that's why they downvoted. But this is what I was trying to emphasize.

"if those people cared enough to down vote, then they should care enough to ask for an explanation"

Downvoting without even asking "why?" is like saying "Fuck off" to anyone who shows a negative opinion, just because they're showing a negative opinion.

Again, I regularly express my dislike of the halo series and don't catch flak and red thumbs for it. If you want people to respect your opinion, then you explain it *first*, not after making a hateful statement like 'those games are trash.' That's insulting to anyone who did enjoy them (implying that they 'like' a trash game), and you deserve to be disliked for it--explaining why you, personally, don't think the games are good is not a personal attack. People aren't downvoting you for your opinion, they're downvoting you for your poor attitude and poor expression of it.
User avatar #146 - itzropey (03/10/2014) [-]
I understand that. But like I previously said, if those people cared enough to down vote, then they should care enough to ask for an explanation. They aren't defending their opinion by downvoting my comment. They're expressing that they don't like my opinion.

If they cared about the way I expressed it, they would, no, they should, ask for an explanation.

Example: I'm deeply in love with the Souls series, and I make it pretty evident. When my friends have a negative opinion about it (which most of them do at first) I ask them why. And if they proceed to explain why using reasons that are completely justified and apparent. Then I'll understand.

But more recently, one of my friends got mad at me and started trashing Dark Souls simply because he knew I enjoyed it. He has never played it or any Souls game or any RPGs for that matter. When I asked him why, he said it looks like Skyrim because there are swords and dragons. That isn't a rational reason and is completely unjustified. So I disregarded it.

I've never disregarded ones opinion simply because it was negative regardless of how they go about expressing it at first. And I don't think anyone should. I would ask someone why they enjoy Halo 4, but for the life of me I can't find anyone who does.

You're not being hated on for disliking the game. You're being hated on for how you expressed it. "Personally, I really haven't liked the more recent games in the Halo series, they didn't really seem to add anything," is an opinion that will be (mostly) respected. "Man that game is trash" is an opinion that will not be.
User avatar #136 - itzropey (03/10/2014) [-]
I can understand that, I didn't explain my opinion at all in my first comment. However simply because I didn't express it doesn't mean that it should be instantly hated and disregarded because it's an opinion that's negative to ones own. If somebody really wanted to defend their opinion in anyway they should ask for one to elaborate. If that person does, and it's completely irrational and misguided, then you can disregard it. But i feel my opinion on is rational.

But no. Most people that downvoted won't accept it regardless, because it's negative and they don't like it when someone has a different opinion than their own.

I never understood how people could be insulted by a part of a game or a movie. It's not like the devs decided they wanted to piss off everyone who played earlier Halo games.
User avatar #135 - itzropey (03/10/2014) [-]
I agree I don't think they had the intention of pissing people off but what they fail to see is a lot of people prefer to play Halo over CoD because it isn't like CoD. (at least all the way up to 3) And putting in elements similar to CoD can easily piss those people off. Shit like sprinting, custom classes, things-that-are-like-perks-but-aren't-perks, killcams, and balloon cross-hairs. All that is something that shouldn't be in a Halo game but is because it's all in CoD. It's all completely detrimental to the gameplay when experienced by either a multiplayer vet or a person who simply liked Halo because it wasn't like the shitpile that CoD is.

And that is insulting. In my, clearly negative opinion that is obviously trash because it's negative and you people don't like it because it's different than yours, opinion.

I acknowledge that it is my opinion and not everyone will agree with it but as a past fan of the Halo series I don't understand how anybody can play that game. Granted Halo Reach was worse, but Halo 4 isn't much better. The story was worse than a CoD Campaign and the multiplayer is an insult to anyone that enjoyed competitive Halo. As for Tomb Raider, it's my opinion that I don't like it, not going to argue against it. I understand that people like it, I personally don't. The Halo series however is gone, its just fucking CoD with a sci-fi theme.
