The fuck are you talking about, the main reason toyota launched lexus was to compete with Mercedes and BMW, and they gave them a run for their money when they entered the market, and Mercedes' sales dropped by 20% when Lexus stepped in. The reason mercedes has what you think is superior service to lexus is because Lexus set the standard and other luxury marques stepped up to it to compete.

I tow far to many bmw's and merc's to see them as anything more than overpriced, gadget-laden, scrap metal.

I'm not even that fond of Asian imports, but I'll take a corolla over a 3 series any day. Not for speed, but for comfort and reliability. Hell, an 80's buick would be preferable.

I don't own a lexus. They are cheap alternatives. Not knockoffs. Pretty much the same, only cheaper and usually safer. And a LOT easier to maintain/fix/run

I own an 06 Mustang GT and a 93 Jeep Cherokee. (I STRONGLY dislike Chrysler, but the older ones are pretty good.)

And too much computerized shit! Holy shit, the amount of Mercedes I've towed JUST for electrical issues is... very high. 20, since Jan 10th?
User avatar #86 - legodude (02/08/2015) [-]
Yet to have an electrical fault, with the exception of a broken key
User avatar #87 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
Yeah those keys can be a pain. Any newer vehicle has those problems (I refuse to buy new). Every new vehicle out there has issues. The new chryslers (across the board, dodge, jeep, fiat, all of them) have REALLY weak batteries. The new chevs are usually pretty good, except their transfer cases and transmissions. Ford used to have issues with the eco-boost, but now their trucks are made of aluminium, which is NOT cheap to fix. And everything european has electric problems it seems (because non of them are actually made well, just built by Americans using Chinese parts, volvo and saab are exceptions) And everything from asia seems to have an 'it'll do'' kind of feel about them. Very reliable and good on fuel though.

The only way to get a solid import (european or asian) is to actually import one built in a factory in it's home country. Then pray it doesn't break down and use inferior parts to fix.
User avatar #88 - legodude (02/08/2015) [-]
it was quite funny really, the key cause a load of problems and Mercedes spent weeks replacing parts until they gave up, flew a guy in from Stuttgart and he knew after 5 mins that it was the keys fault... I guess that's why I'm having fewer problems all our mercs come from germany itself as I live in the UK
User avatar #89 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
Precisely. I used to live in England, but I moved to the Americas. Canada, to be precise. All my arguments hold true over here. In Europe, they are amazing. For sure.

Still, love my muscle lol
User avatar #106 - kerfufflemachtwo (02/08/2015) [-]
I currently drive an '06 Monte Carlo. Which, I've been told by many people, has one of the most reliable engines GM ever made. The 3900 Series III V-6.

I know the frame will fall apart in the future. It did on my '98 Grand Prix, which is pretty much the same thing. But at least the engine will last.

Also, which part of Canada? Cause if you're near Detroit, and do love muscle cars, you will want to come here in August. Because of a glorious event known as the Woodward Dream Cruise. Here are some pictures I took from last year's Cruise.

s56.photobucket.com/user/KerfuffleMach2/library/DreamCruise2014?sort=3&page=1
User avatar #107 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
I know of them. Yeah the grand prix's have been known for errors. I'm fairly sure it was the weak ass supercharger they slammed on the top. The carlo's are pretty good though!

Unfortunately, i'm on the other side in Alberta. I take a drive to the Vancouver coast every year... oh man is that great to get the top down with.

I've heard of that! We get many car shows down here, I entered my lincoln in all of them, but the biggest was the High River Classics. That was fun.
User avatar #110 - kerfufflemachtwo (02/08/2015) [-]
My Grand Prix wasn't supercharged. Just the normal 3.8L V6. Rest of the car was falling apart, but the motor still ran fine.

If you get the chance, come to this show. No entry fee or anything. Just show up and drive on Woodward Avenue. All of those pictures were taken over a one mile stretch of Woodward. And this goes for at least six miles.

User avatar #111 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
One day, for sure. That's one hell of a road trip. Furthest i've taken my girl is the Grand Canyon and Vegas. (on may long weekend)

2012 A160 as a cheap run about, 2008 CLS350 CDI, and my pride a 1989 190 2.0

not the best picture of the old girl, she had been sat for a couple of years when I picked her up, needs a little bit of tidying and the paintwork buffed but she is 100% rust free
#95 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
Not my jeep, but mines pretty much the same, only it has a full size spare on the roof. And no wheel flares.

User avatar #115 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
They really are. Luxury, for sure. But I'm not afraid to scratch my jeep. At all haha, I was driving it through trees just yesterday. Broke a couple things. Proper off road, not just some track. Great fun when you just don't care about the bodywork haha
User avatar #118 - legodude (02/08/2015) [-]
and costing what they do a G wagon would be too risky to offroad! lol, I was for a while looking at surplus G wagons
#93 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
The old'uns are always the best ones, that's for sure.

My old three. 06 GT Mustang, 00 Ford F-150 7700 (I LOVE that truck. bought it back twice, just sold her again. STILL going strong) and my old 78 Lincoln continental (she had a 7.6L v8 under the hood. Modified. Monster.)

Now I just have the GT and a Jeep. (Not shown)
User avatar #94 - legodude (02/08/2015) [-]
that mustang does look sweet, are they stock wheels? Don't know much about mustangs myself, whats the GT model?
User avatar #99 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
Also, that hood scoop is actually the air intake. Fully functional shaker system.
User avatar #97 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
Nope, those are Konigs. Expensive haha. GT is... hm... bigger brakes, better transmission, bigger engine, bigger stock rims, bigger rear axel (though i'm upgrading. A lot) and a bigger engine.

Mine is a 4.6 v8, though i've got a few add ons. Pushing roungly 580 bhp and 525 ft-lbs tq
User avatar #114 - legodude (02/08/2015) [-]
can't see the point of a mustang without the V8, they only reason people in the UK have a mustang is that they want a V8 muscle car...
User avatar #116 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
Exactly! It's kinda pointless. Can't even fathom how much it'd be to run one over there though. Mine definitely wouldn't be legal, I think.
User avatar #108 - legodude (02/08/2015) [-]
ah good so it's a V8, back here in the UK we are getting the new mustang, but only the ecoboost.....
User avatar #109 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
So I heard! The first mustang since the 64.5's, and the first EVER right hand drives. BUT only the v6 eco. Kind of a crappy deal.

Over here, if it's not a v8 or a stick shift, it's a girls car. Gotta have a v8. Holy shit is it fun.

(sure, you can get more power out of the eco v6 with some light add-ons. But it's the principal of the matter lol.)
User avatar #84 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
Cheap... kinda. Rust? Not that I can see. Well, the jeep is getting there. But still, that things a beast. I can take that thing places mercs just can't go. Even the gwagen. It's also rolling over 340,000 kms, not even a leak under the hood. I've yet to see a new merc last over 200,000.

My mustang is a monster for entirely different reasons. Because I know what i'm doing behind the wheel, and under the hood. Can't work on mercedes, far too superficial and precise.

User avatar #61 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
There are plenty of things I'd rather buy than German scrap metal. Statistically, SOMETHING with any model of merc will go wrong within the first 300 km's. I'll stick to my American muscle, or anything British really.
#65 - gerfox (02/08/2015) [-]
Safe, comfortable cars are my thing - and nothing beats Mercedes in that area.
User avatar #68 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
Plus my old 78 lincoln was FAR more comfortable than any merc i've ever sat in.
User avatar #67 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
Tesla. Easily. Voted and tested as the safest car to ever prowl the roads, at a perfect 5 star safety rating. But that's very high end. I've towed many a crashed merc. They have some pretty terrible crumple zones.
#117 - gerfox (02/08/2015) [-]
From what I've read, and what I have been told, Mercedes have excellent crumple zones. Some models even have a mechanic which causes the engine to drop down below the car whenever there's a crash so that the engine isn't forced in to the drivers seat by the impact.
User avatar #119 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
This is from what I've seen. In person. It's my job to clean that stuff up. People can report and say all they want, but in reality... it's nothing like that. The engine is never the problem. The the airbags, the metal, the plastic of the dash, I've even seen the frame itself pierce the bottom of the floorboards and up, into and through the passenger chair. Luckily there was no one sitting there.
#122 - gerfox (02/08/2015) [-]
Alright, but wouldn't the engine itself, being such a heavy device - be a forceful proponent in any crash. Sure, it won't pierce into the passenger seats, but it would push everything else considering its weight.
User avatar #123 - themassivefail (02/08/2015) [-]
If anything, it carries the vehicle forward with momentum. I've never seen an engine leave its bay, the engine mounts rarely give way.
