hes actually a bit of a douche in that regard. He'll hold an "awareness tour" and donate next to nothing of the profits because it was for "awareness" not charity

I don't agree with what he does but his intensions are better than most other bands/people. To argue on his side, sometimes awareness is key. Most charities only send a fraction of their earnings actually help what they support anyway. Education is important and just sending a charity tons of money might not always be the best thing

And here's the thing about Jeremy Kyle.
He comes out with some sense like the first part.
Then he fucking steps all over everything.
Like when he said that line he wasn't paying attention and was talking over him.
Guy pisses me off. Sometimes he is helping, but other times he's only making it worse, and trying to piss people off. Then he acts like a big dick long legged macdaddy and when he's pissed off and insulted people so much they want to bash his head in he calls in his thugs and goes to whimper in a corner whilst snarling and hurling abuse at the person being carried off by said thugs..
So
In conclusion he's a massive cunt.
But even a massive cunt does come out with something that makes sense on rare occasions.

We have seen where this has led to before on this matter.
When you start charging for the mod using other mod developers content and claiming it as your own that brings distrust inside the modding community. Also Valve doesn't give a shit if you steal it from the original modder and is going to take the majority of the money anyway. And unless you make the $400 dollar mark to receive a pittance of $100 dollars then you are not going to see any money which means that everyone is getting screwed.

We are not pissed that mod are being charged as much as we are pissed that they are sowing discontent inside the modding community. Donations should be the way to go and even then optional. There is no reason to hide it behind a pay wall to get this at all. Some Modders like to do funny and quirky stuff and put it in the game others want to add on to the story.

I have no problem with supporting mods and modders that I like but what valve is doing here is basically causing a big riff between the modders themselves. You should look into NexusMods one of the longest running modding sites and this article here www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/news/12444/?.

Its not that I think that the modders shouldn't get paid for the hard work they put into their mods.

But as the system stands now. Litterally anyone could upload a piece of shit that costs 1$. and people would not know that it is shit until atleast one paid for it.

No, a patreon system would be far better. Not only making the mods free again, but also making it so that people could pledge/donate money to the hard working modders who deserve it.

If mod authors wanted money, they would ask for it.
User avatar #160 - acirikis (04/25/2015) [-]
Except that's not how it works.
Wanting money for someone else's game is just asking to get sued.
User avatar #208 - magictheg (04/25/2015) [-]
I said they ask, not demand, they could put a link to a donation page in the Mod Description, and to top it off, they would be asking money for the content they created. I am not against Mod Authors getting money for their work, but the way Valve has implemented it is fucking retarded, 75% of the total income goes to Valve/Zenimax? Fuck that, sure they made the game available, but the modders and mod authors already paid for it, its a giant money grub, and I thought Valve was above that.

Its like making a blacksmith, who already paid for the ore, give 75% if the profits to the mine that supplied the ore.

Not really.
Modding is only permitted if the EULA of the game allows you to, and even them most devs/publishers forbid you from selling it for profit. Valve went and got permission for modders to actually get paid for their work, that's why Skyrim is the only game with this "feature" right now, only bethesda said yeah sure let them sell mods for our game.

See the issue here is that first off, quite a few modders removed their mods for free and have rereleased them but with a price tag which I think we can all accept as a dick move on their part since they're making us pay for something we could previously get for free.

Secondly now the modding community is all about making money instead of adding new features to improve the game for everyone. I'm within a few days they'll be hundreds of copycat mods all trying to cash in for a quick buck.
User avatar #142 - wthree (04/25/2015) [-]
Not to mention it is setting a precedent. It's changing the market and the expectations so that paying for 3rd party mods will become normal, the same way paying 40$ for a 'cut-down' game, and then paying an extra 20$ on DLC that adds features that would originally have been in the game in the first place, has become normal.
User avatar #101 - istoleyoursoxs (04/25/2015) [-]
The only reason people could get it for free before is because they werent allowed to charge for it. If they were given permission from the get go I can assure you that they would have charged.

And just because you can charge people now doesnt mean that modding is all about making money now. No truly good artist, musician or other hobbyist that makes a successful career ever turns around and says "I just did it for the money" If I made a hugely successful album and got nothing for it but then got offered to charge for it I would probably do that. But good modders, good artists, smart people know that if you want people to receive your content then you do it either for free or at little to no cost until you become successful enough to be in the position to charge.
