I don't have the idea that "because gun violence won't immediately drop to zero there's no point in taking this sort of action", I have the idea that I am an American citizen with the fucking right, not privilege of defending myself and my loved ones. Banning guns in general wont have that happen, the countries with strict gun enforcement still have gun crime, you cant eradicate it, its ignorant to think so.

I am however, seeing this in the real world, not some fantasy land where we are similar to other countries halfway around the damn world in any way when it comes to crime, society and relations with our neighbors. We have internal conflicts within this country not comparable when it comes to gangs, cartel, and their ever constant flow of expendable recruits from impoverished areas. Combine that with how we don't actually attempt to cure/assist those with a mental illness and just give them drugs to try and suppress their ailments (some do get the care needed, but I've seen too many instances where they hand them some pills with side effects worse than their ailment and send them on their merry way.). Add onto that how our society as a whole, not the individual, is becoming more and more victimized to the point that defending yourself in any way is frowned upon and we have morons that own firearms with individuals that have a mental illness very close to them (Family, close friend, etc.), but they fail to take the needed precautions to keep everyone safe. I could ad that common sense is making its way out as well, but I doubt it has had as strong of a presence to begin with.

In the end I do not want my right to defend myself be taken away by a government that is useless when it comes to issues within its own country (Katrina, L.A Riots, Etc.) all because some idiot with a fucked up (mentally) relative or loved one decides to forgo the gun safe or hiding the firearm, which leads to news centers making a huge deal about it for the next 2 weeks, until that encourages another shooter for them to fill their rime time slot with and get the viewers rolling in to gawk at the "carnage" and "catastrophe" that ensues. Its a continuing cycle that those in power do nothing but benefit from it, and the fact that we have people that want this right of this country removed entirely astounds me.

If it gets to that point, and a individual truly believes that our second amendment means nothing and that the issues derive from a tool (firearm) rather than those who wield it improperly (Disturbed individuals) and they have no desire to treat those that suffer from ailments of the mind but instead want to disarm the masses in the hopes that a incident does no occur (Keep in mind that a gun is by far, not the only way to commit mass murder.) just to have the illusion that they are "safe", they may as well immigrate to another country because the America those individuals are advocating for will not be America soon enough.

the grip safety is mostly found on 1911 style pistols, however you will likely never see rubber bands on a 1911 because it was built properly the first time and won't slip out of your hand.
