dude as soon as i heard bleak i knew this band was golden. i went out and bought all three of their live dvds. a lot of people dont like their new sound, but mikael even said its getting way harder to do his metal vox. besides, their latest album is top notch too

Yeah, I get the appeal of the "kvlt" basement-tape level production, but I much prefer high production value in my metal, so I should probably dig that. I freaking love Opeth too, Still Life is amazing for their transitions from heavy to soft parts. Just totally seemless. It doesn't hurt that Mikael Ankerfeldt is one of the best vocalists in metal too.

Symbolic is one of my all-time favorite records dude, and Surgical Steel is easily my favorite album of last year. I've dug the stuff i've dabbled in with Immortal to give them a real shot, but I can't decide which album to start with. As far as black metal goes, Tvangeste's Damnation Of Regiomontum impressed me quite a bit a while back. I honestly can't listen to Testament or most thrash bands much, but certain songs are great.

Hell yeah man, I always love finding people with good taste on here haha. Symbolic is also my favorite Death album. As far as Immortal goes, I would say start with At the Heart of Winter and Sons of Northern Darkness. They are somewhat later in their career but its at the point where the production has cleaned up enough to really let the songwriting shine through. Man do they have some tasty riffs. Sons of Northern Darkness was the first metal cd I ever owned along with Mastodon's Leviathan. My favorite band is Opeth though, all the proggy goodness you could want and still heavy as balls haha

I think Load and Reload were good hard rock records. The problem is, they are compared to incredible and outright fucking magical records like Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning which are certainly in that echelon of best metal records of all time. That said, their peers Slayer, Megadeth, Testament, Exodus etc have been consistently great fucking awesome really for a number of years.
User avatar #184 - isaapostasied (04/25/2014) [-]
I can respect that, I mean, if thats what they want to write its not like I have any reason to say their wrong. I just don't care for it. I've always been a fan of the more extreme end of metal, Death, Carcass, Immortal, stuff along those ends. I'm not really that into thrash, though Slayer's Seasons In the Abyss will always be a great album.

Yeah, I've been in quite a few bands in my state scene. Right now I'm working on a project with my other guitarist friend. I do vocals too, we will program the drums until we move to a bigger city though. Not in an active band right now unfortunately...

thats awesome man what kind of music?
User avatar #10 to #9 - isaapostasied (06/29/2012) [-]
It's still kind of in the formation stage, we only have two songs written yet. We're shooting for a blackened death sound influenced by psychadelic/prog rock, and doom and stoner metal, like Candlemass, Electric Wizard, Sleep, stuff like that. Super Atmospheric and brutal but with beautiful moments like with Opeth.
