I'd give it a 7 or 8. It was pretty good and accounted for more audible laughs I've had in a theater that I can remember. Like all these superhero movies, the plot is incredibly simple, the action scenes are corny (huge pet peeve of mine but that's more my fault), and to me the space age star trek stuff was a bit over the top in the begining and made it stale.
That sounds like a bad review, but I'm just giving the nitpicking reasons I docked it 2 or 3 points depending on your views of the spacey stuff. The movie was pretty damn good and incredibly fun, just not something amazing like some people are making it out to be.

I felt there are quite a lot of forced jokes. Like a lot of action movies these days they are forcing comedy in there 100% of the time. It's a decent watch if you don't take it too seriously and can put up with everyone in the cinema roaring in laughter at obvious/ unoriginal jokes.
Underwhelming but still about 6.5/10

I'm actually about to see it a second time. It was fantastic. I thought they could have very easily screwed up Rocket and the Starlord and their interpretations of the characters was, in my eyes, excellent. A very good balance of action and comedy, which I wasn't really expecting. I give it a solid 9/10.

Gonna be perfectly honest here, was really underwhelmed. Not up to the Marvel standard. It all felt extremely systematic and processed, nothing felt organic or interesting. The villain's one-note, most of the aliens are just humans in makeup, there's a part where they realize that several of the main characters have no backstory forty minutes in or so so everyone literally groups up and spills out one-paragraph summaries of their lives and trials one after another, and it's really easy to tell where everything in one shot has been CGI'd and where it hasn't. The humor didn't do it for me, either- there are some neat quirks to a bunch of the characters, but none of them have much of anything done with them (Rocket's tinkering and Groot's plant abilities arguably aside.)
5/10, functional but disappointing, would not buy on DVD.

While I do agree with it being underwhelming, every time I hear "they're just humans in makeup" I have to resist the urge to grind my teeth. Have you ever read a Guardians comic? You do realize that most aliens in the comic are humanoid in shape with different skin colors, right? They don't have extra limbs or weird pupils or tails or shit. They are humans with different colors that live on another planet called by another name. Period. Would you have rather they been CGI'd? I doubt it, since that's the number 1 complaint of any movie ever, no thanks to George Lucas. They stayed true to the material, and you can't really ask more from the director.
I personally thought that while Chris Pratt's improve didn't really add to the humor in the story or the character of Star Lord, Batista's stupidly humorous Drax got a good laugh out of me. Rocket Raccoon was entertaining as well. Not funny, but entertaining.
And at least we can say that the plot kept moving smoothly even with those one paragraph spheals from every character. With the way they transitioned from scene to scene so quickly sometimes, it would have really taken away from the movie to waste film delving into each individual character's backstory instead of just highlighting the details and moving on with the plot.
I just don't get the complaints about the FX makeup, it's more expensive than CGI and takes quite an effort, don't even get me started on puppetry. I personally give the movie a solid 8/10. Overrated for sure, but hardly disappointing in many of the ways people seem to complain it is.

Fair enough, but I'd've probably looked past it if the film hadn't been so painfully mediocre. This was Marvel's shot at selling me on comic book heroes I had absolutely no nostalgia for or knowledge of, and they really fell flat in a bajillion little ways. Thanos isn't intimidating, just kind of chubby. Drax could've been hilarious- I would've loved to see more pranks on a man who has no capacity for understanding metaphors- but gets entirely too few shots taken at him. Starlord's swearing diminishes any suspension there is in the climax. Rocket gets an ordinary machine gun and reacts like it's a handheld Death Star. Gamora and Drax are entirely too similar in function, character, and backstory to one another.

True, true. Think I'm gonna re-watch it later today and see if i get inspired to draw some artwork of my character who is both a gravity manipulator and a teleporter, as well as having super human vision, temporal duplication and the ability to phase. Oh and also he's a badass british army sniper background.

Dude no just no. Shit like that doesnt happen. No cyberman, dalek, scary ghostie. That shit cannot do anything to you. The only way it could hurt you is if it decided to jump from the wireless spectrum to the gamma radiation spectrum and melt a hole in your brain, which is very unlikely. Tech that can control your mind costs alot of money. Te best they could do is subliminal messaging and gps tracking and that shit isnt exactly new.
