The Falcata's a very strange weapon. Its shape of the blade resembles that of a sickle, or maybe an axe. This could imply that Falcatas are made to be used like axes or sickles, delivering single blows with the whole width of the blade at once, much like a Machete. Falcata's lack of hand-guard and its curved shape, however, makes it pretty crappy and blocking large weapons. Thankfully for the Falcata, most weapons could be yielded single-handedly and were mostly the same size at the time of its use.
Furthermore, lunchablespizza was right to assume that the Falcata died out in usage. It much later on evolved into the Yatagan, a weapon used by the turks in the Ottoman Empire. Besides that, the Falcata has no further relevance.

TL;DR The Falcata is irrelevant to the evolution of medieval swords, hence being left out of the diagram.

I wanted to focus on the evolution of the Gladius to modern day swords. I avoided swords like the falcata, kopis, or xiphos because they probably evolved into their own trees/died out in usage.
