Well, everything has tropes, tropes aren't inherently bad, and whether a trope is executed well or poorly is subjective.
I'm not saying SOA was groundbreaking, but it entertained me, whereas its spiritual predecessor .hack bored me to tears. I hear the other one, Log...something, is better than both, but haven't had a chance to check it out.

That's just a popular weapon-based misconception that becomes popular thanks to games, movies and videogames just like guns Akimbo and the Katana being the "ultimate sword." Im usually a fan of the classics and practical Dat fight scene between Achilles and Hector in Troy <3 but dual wielding just draws me in, can't describe it. Guess im enticed by the aesthetics.

Yeah, I know why dual-wielding is considered super bestest, but it still bugs me. I don't mind if a character who doesn't normally dual-wield picks up another weapon and that's represented as being a big deal, like in the Old Republic's Korriban trailer, but when somebody like Kirito or Drizzt is just more powerful 'becuz two sords gaiz,' then I roll my eyes.
I'm pretty aesthetically driven, myself. I like heavy-armored tank type characters, but I also like two-handed weapons, so even though obviously a shield is better for being a defensive juggernaut, I like to be able to tank with a huge axe in my vidya games.
