My favorite ones are the "Will it" videos or the tasting videos but yeah I completely understand. I always skip the "Wheel of mythicality" or when they do the Tuesday fan package opening cause there's a lot of talking and it's not that interesting.

I would also strongly recommend OpenSuSE. It's a great distro that scales very well, for relatively new users to power users. There's a lot of neat stuff that the community cooked up that works incredibly well (one-click installers for packages from the opensuse website, searching for packages, solid documentation most of the time, etc).

Let me know if you run into any issues or if you have any questions (and I'm sure whiplasher would be able to answer your questions as well).

Personally, I prefer Fedora. But, honestly, I would not recommend it to a complete newbie, because it requires a bit more terminal work to use it. The only difference between distros that new users should be concerned of is the UI. If you like the Windows 7 interface, try Zorin OS. If you like Windows XP, try Linux Mint. If you like mac, try elementary OS or Deepin. Look them up on Google Images and see what suits your fancy.

Definately. Although you should keep some things in mind. Web devs are split into 2 categories: front-end and back-end. Front-end means web-design, as in actually making the webpage, adding sounds, animations etc. For that, you'll need HTML, CSS and Javascript (not necesarily, but these are the most used). Back-end means making that website communicate with a server, log-in/register systems, etc. For that, you'll need an SQL, like MySQL, PostgreSQL etc. (I recommend MySQL if you're a beginner, it's quite easy to learn). And you'll also need a scripting language. The most common is PHP. Now, you've probably heard of it and leaning towards it, but I really don't recommend starting with PHP because it is, in my opinion, a total mess. You should learn Python with Django, or Ruby on Rails, as Python and Ruby are fantastic languages that actually can be used for a plethora of things, not just webdev. Especially Python.

And why you should do that on Linux? Here's why:
It has a ton of tools developed mainly for Linux that ease your work.
It's easily customisable, so you can make your workspace the way you want it. (that's big, trust me)
The terminal eases things immensely. You can just program in it, compile in it, test scripts in it, edit databases in it.
The package manager (the install feature, as you called it) helps things a lot, especially when you want to download extra libraries or modules for Python.
There's probably more. If you want my tip: dual-boot Linux and Windows. That's how I do it, and I use Windows every time I want to game on my pc, the rest of the time I use Linux.
To end this huge wall of text, I'll just recommend some very easy to use and visually pleasant distros: Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, Zorin OS, Deepin, elementary OS.

If you're a hardcore gamer, then Linux is not for you, yet. It does not have the performance in gaming of Windows and it does not have as many games. But I can tell you why I personally use Linux:
It's incredibly customisable, I can make it do pretty much anything.
It's very programmer friendly, especially because of that amazing terminal.
The terminal - the handiest tool ever. It's sooo useful, let me give you an example. If you want to install a program (let's say GIMP) on WIndows, you would have to download the program, install it, avoid any toolbars etc. On Linux, I just type (depending on the distro) "sudo apt-get install gimp" and it's done.
It's retard-proof. Install it on someone tech-illiterate's pc and you will never worry about that pc getting viruses or slowing down.
It's fun to tinker with.
And there's probably more. If you just play games then you shouldn't use Linux. It is lacking in that department, for the moment. Valve seems to be changing that (apparently, Bioshock Infinite is coming on Linux).

Thanks! I noticed that the install feature on terminal was great! It's so simple I'm trying to get into web dev / design. Is there any advantages to doing that on Linux as far as you know?
