that sounds more awesome than the other ones. You know what I always found weird about dragon ball? Cause I'm gonna tell you. The super sayan levels. First off, with Goku having no other sayan comrades (i believe the first time he went super sayan was before he and Vegeta (his name according to Norwegian translation, don't know if it's the same in english) became friendly. So how did he know about the term super sayan? Secondly,even after that, only a few sayans have ever achieved the rank of super sayan before Goku. Then came super sayan level 2. I lost most of my desire to read the manga then. I still continued though. In all the years between the sayan species forming and the planet getting destroyed none passed that level. This counts for those above as well. I don't know why but I always hated that. Loved the show, though

He knew about the Super Saiyan term because Freeza, Vegeta and even King Kai kept mentioning it, Vegeta mostly says that it was a legendary transformation though he never knew how it looked like, by that time Goku related his new form with the transformation people were talking about.
Also, a transformation isn't just about getting stronger, it's sometimes a personification, it's likely that Goku incorporated the spirit of the ancient saiyan in that moment.

It's from the new dbz movie Battle of gods, Goku's base hair and eyes turns red and he gets an red aura, but unlike the other transformations his hair isn't up and he doesn't get buff either.
