I think it's adorable and mildly entertaining, and a tad bit of humor.

Alright, I'm actually going to go off a little bit of what the user below me said, because he does bring up a few good points, but I'd like to refute a few.

I will agree that the voice acting is very strong, if not, the strongest thing the show has to offer. I'm not going to argue with some of the best in the industry at this point, the obvious veteran talent being Tara Strong.

The brand of jokes they pull will largely depend on the subject matter of the episode. Some are heavily based on pun, others slapstick, and others dry, but the writers generally at least try to diversify their humor throughout the episode.

The animation is some of the best work I've seen in Flash. Granted, I've seen better animation quality in other mediums, such as stop motion and traditional 2D, but given the hardships and limitations that come with working with Macromedia Flash 8, I highly admire their level of quality.

The stories, like he said, can be generic, but what sets them apart from other kids shows is mainly in their execution. Most episodes do a very good job at painting the picture of the conflict from multiple perspectives, paying respect to all characters involved and allowing the user to obtain full focus of the case in hand. However, there are a few slot which break this standard, and can drag a story because of it, but these tend to be the exception to most episodes.

Backstories in the show so far have been VERY consistant with each other. The episode, The Cutie Mark Chronicles explains their origin very well and establishes their past along the context of their relationship, and are often referenced in other episodes. Generally in the form of a quick quip or two, they don't last long, but they are mentioned.

And as we've said, the voice acting tallent it phenomenal.

So, this has been my opinion, biassed yes, but take that for what you will.
Hope you have a fine day, sir, and I hope that it has helped you make a decision.

Also, for your patience, kittens.

4chan started using images of MLP for jokes, and then some people latched onto it like they did with pokemon. It just kind of snowballed out of control from there.

Honestly, the best thing the show has going for it, is the voice acting.
The jokes are funny once an episode or so, but they're mostly okay at best.
The animation gets good for the season premiere and the finale, but otherwise it's just average.
The stories are pretty generic, usually about friendship. (obviously)
The backstories either contradict each other, are very vague, or just don't exist.
The voice acting, however, is very good, especially for a show made to sell toys to little girls. Every time they have to deliver a horse based pun that would otherwise be terrible, they always manage to simply say it like it's a real word. It's a little thing, but it really saves the dialogue.
