The way my friends and I play, you can make up your own class. I could be a purple flying hippopotamus that shoots lasers out of my eyes. One time we played where we were superheroes and some weird shit was going on around town. Have you ever tried playing BESM?
I do prefer the classic D&D though. If I remember correctly I played third or second edition.
