It was an absolutely shit idea that didn't completely backfire for the sole reason of them having a fucking stranglehold on Half-Life 2. The ONLY way to get Half Life 2 when it came out was to use Steam. Some internal part of it also required Steam to even run, so things like Garry's Mod and Counter Strike were only usable on Steam

Had they made the Physical copy of HL2 an actual Physical Copy and not just a download code for Steam way back when, we'd be in a VERY different reality for gaming

Now that I think about it, Nintendo probably would have pulled out of the West, digital downloads wouldn't be a thing really or they'd just be shit and nobody would use them , we wouldn't have Season Passes after release small bits of DLC originated on Steam , Indie Gaming would have a much smaller market, Undertale probably wouldn't exist, and we'd most likely be living in a world with both Half Life 3 and Blizzard controlling the PC market

Is it really? You are limiting your potential audience, more people are likely to see their games and buy them if they were on steam. Basically unless you already know about those games they are likely not going to sell much.

EA is big enough that they don't care about the exposure they could get from steam.
Triple A games don't sell that well anyway on steam unless they're heavily discounted or made by bethesda.
