well if you want to dabble with overclocking that'd be great with a i7 4790k. if you dont want to overclock I'd say get a xeon like the xeon E3 1231v3. Really bang for the buck, you get i7 performance without paying the i7 price.

If you're referring to the asrock board yes, they don't have a big name with motherboards they do fantastic. What CPU did you want to go with? or what's the budget?

I just want a major upgrade, the price isn't that important as long as i get what i pay for. I am currently saving money specifically for this upgrade.

Since you've got plenty of RAM and it's DDR3, go for a Z97 motherboard and either an i5-4690K or i7-4790K depending on your budget. You can still use your "old" RAM.

But keep in mind, take Ghz with a HUGE pinch of salt.

higher the GHz doesnt always mean it's better. With how old your socket is now there won't be many upgrade options. but of course only first gen I7's will be your upgrade if you can find any. but try upgrading the Motherboard and CPU.

These are the ones i'd say are worth the upgrade I5 4460/ I5 4690k, I7 4790k/ Xeon E3 1231v3/ I5 6500/ i5 6600k/ i7 6700k/ Xeon E3 1230v5
